Stayed here with a friend for a week and really enjoyed it. Rooms were clean and spacious, great choice of English tv channels (just a bonus of course!) and the pool and jacuzzi/sauna area were great to relax at the end if the day. Location on the walkway that overlooks the ocean is great, and views are stunning, although it is a 40 min walk to Funchal. As two friends in our 20's we were happy to make the walk twice a day sometimes, but those less mobile or just feeling lazy can take advantage of the free shuttle bus put on by the hotel- only comment I have about this is that the last bus left at 7.05 which is a bit early (hence the walking) but this is a minor point, and those who wish can take a taxi for €7 to the town. Staff at check in and breakfast were wonderful, always happy to help and breakfast itself was plentiful and good choice (including for veggies like me) as 'young' people compared to the average tourists in Madeira, we did find it quiet, but in a good way and we loved just relaxing at the hotel and exploring the island. After talking to some locals we did find some hidden spots for good nightlife- so its there you just have to look for it! Go on the west tour during stay, really pretty, and whale watching in cahelta is fantastic (try losbonas an ethical company who dont hound the animals) but back to the hotel, cannot fault it and will likely return next time I need a restful holiday.
