Just returned from our 2nd visit to The Pestana Grand. Our first being for a week last November, this holiday was for 2 weeks. Our request for the same room was honoured, so we enjoyed the glorious views over the Atlantic. Everything was spotlessly clean, and we had maid service twice a day. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and courteous, from the managers to the cleaning staff. All were smart and obviously very dedicated. Patricia and Franscisco in the dining room were exceedingly pleasant, and worked very long hours, but were always smiling. Excellent varied choice at breakfast, including sparking wine!!.The food and beverage manager ,Natalia was lovely and was keen to ensure that all was well at all times.
We were very lucky to have 2 weeks of very warm, sunny days, and enjoyed breakfast outside every morning, and lovely late afternoons and evenings on our 2 balconies.
The room was quiet, hardly heard a sound for 2 weeks apart from the sea and the birds.
No noise from other rooms at all.
The bed was very comfortable, and we had many sheet changes during our stay.
After dinner we returned to a 'turn down' service and a delicious chocolate each. Any rubbish had been removed, and all in all an excellent room service.
Bar prices are quite high, but with a variety of shops/supermarkets nearby which are very inexpensive, and a small fridge in our room, we stocked up on drinks which we enjoyed before/after diinner.
Booked a few trips at the little kiosk west of the hotel on the promenade. Cheryl was exceptionally helpful, and works Mondays and Saturdays, as was Norbert too.
Excellent fish restaurant close to the shopping centre, best seafood we have eaten in a long time, the portions were huge.
This will definitely not be our last visit, having been so pleased with everything about Pestana, we have joined the Vacation Club.
Would recommend this hotel ....the location, which, although is a little out of town, was quiet and peaceful and the free courtesy bus into Funchal , which runs every 40 mins in a real bonus
Looking forward to an Autumn visit to this piece of paradise.
