“It lives up to all our expectations.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We were imressed from day one of our holiday and it just got better. This was our first visit to both Madeira and The Regency Cliff. It won't be the last, we are already planning our return next year. It may be rated as 4 star but it provides 5 star quality in every way. Staff, including management, are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotlessly clean, bright and spacious and ALL have sea views.
The location is excellent, perched on top of the cliff you have fantastic views all round. None of the accommodation is overlooked by any of the nearby hotels. There is a bus stop just outside with regular buses into Funchal. The hotel has its own private path down to the promenade where you will find the lido and delightful cliff top walks.
It has provided us with a luxurious sunny warm break in the middle of winter.

Room Tip: Avoid being on the first floor because there is less privacy. We were on floor 2 which was excellent...

First time in Madeira and we were not disappointed. Our trip was made all the better for staying in this lovely hotel. Spotlessly clean; good facilities; very comfortable and very pleasant and helpful staff. The view from our balcony was superb - totally unspoilt with nothing but the blue sea and sky. It is also very very peaceful and relaxing. The hotel is close to a number of very good restaurants and shops with the Commercial/Shopping Centre (Forum Madeira) just a couple of minutes walk away; this is an excellent centre with numerous restaurants and fast food outlets, good quality shops, a large supermarket and a cinema. The centre of Funchal is quite a long walk down hill from the hotel - the walk if taken slowly is very pleasant but I would recommend getting a taxi back unless you are pretty fit (which I'm not). All in all I would recommend the Regency Cliff Hotel - along with Funchal and Madeira. We certainly intend to return for another visit.

This was our second visit. Our first was nine years ago and we cannot think why it took us so long to return, as it's a great base for a visit to Madeira. We love the location and the wonderful sea views; and the excellent local bus service gives easy access to the centre of Funchal and the rest of the island.
We were less than happy with the room allocated to us on arrival, but the staff could not have been more helpful in offering alternatives - we selected one which was particularly spacious, with a huge balcony, albeit with only morning sun. The friendliness and helpfulness of the reception staff is a special feature of the hotel - they provided us with all the bus timetable information we needed for our many island walks.
The breakfast was fine, although there was a tendency for popular dishes to go done, with a delay sometimes in re-stocking. We had dinner in the hotel only once during our fortnight's stay, and so cannot really comment about this, although the atmosphere seemed a little sedate. (This is probably a consequence of the hotel apparently targetting the "mature end" of the market - I am not sure it would be the best choice for families with children.)
The proximity of local shops, bars and restaurants is helpful; and I would advise people not to be put off by the appearance of O Almofariz directly opposite - great value!

Room Tip: If you are on the ground floor, you are likely to find the hotel's sun loungers between your bal...

We wanted a nice break away in January for a little sun and the regency served us beautifully. Helpful staff, a clean room, a lovely location and a friendly bar team made our stay great. The hotel is a taxi away from the old town or 30 min walk (we're in our thirties so we have a good pace) but that shouldn't put you off its only 10 euros.

Facilities were good. Happy hour was a bonus from 6-7. The pools are small and it's only got a steam room but they were helpful on recommending the spa at the vidamar down the road which is unmissable! 30e for a couple great value. You must try the salt water pool and its water streams. Trust me!

We would recommend going to the old town and in particular the vintage bar. Great atmosphere and a relief from the places that cater for the old crowd. Beef and wines is a good restaurant but its location isn't great.

All in I would say its a fab place to stay. The views from all the rooms are great with sea views. Breakfast is very good too - a good spread. We would come back.

Just returned from a second visit to this excellent hotel. The management is welcoming and the staff cheerful and efficient. Any small problems are dealt with promptly and efficiently. I particularly like the clean, elegant style of the lounge and the well-appointed bedrooms with their wonderful sea views. I definitely hope to make a third visit and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We spent our honeymoon here in Aug 2012. We were absolutely satisfied with everyting (room cleanliness, food for breakfast, garage for rented car, wifi in room) and would choose this hotel anytime in the future.

Just returned from our 2nd visit to this small friendly hotel. Very convenient location for walking, shopping and trying out local restaurants and bars if you want. The food we had at the hotel was well presented and cooked. The staff were always very friendly and efficient and the whole hotel was very clean warm and bright. views from most of the rooms are superb and am already thinking about next years visit. Local restaurant qb near the forum was particularly good and only a short walk.
