“Another happy visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

Just returned from our 4th - yes 4th time at the Regency Cliff Hotel. We keep going back for many reasons. First of all it's in Madeira, then there's the location, the friendly and very helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. Add on the marvellous views from our room and the terrace restaurant, the food, particularly the buffet breakfast. It's small and quiet and a little way from the centre of Funchal but we think that adds to the charm of the place. Overall a favourite place of ours for a week of relaxation and enjoyment. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor with a sea view.

We have just returned from our stay at the Regency Cliff.

Spotless hotel, professional and courteous staff. Large room with balcony.
Good selection at breakfast buffet.

But the highlight has to be the Terrace, looking out over the sea. Amazing!

You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner served on the terrace and there is also
additional seating if you just wish to have a drink and take in the spectacular view.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing a relaxing and pampered stay. (forgot to mention they have health club with turkish bath)

Room Tip: stay on either 3rd,4th or 5th floor.

My wife and I stayed for the second time June 18 for two weeks. We requested and upgrade to a corner room direct to the hotel and all we asked for was done to the letter. The fact that this was our second visit in nine months and we will visit again in the next year after Teneriffe (Oct.) and Sorrento (April 13) should say it all for us. Special thanks to all the staff once again.

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel and have found in very well presented with good facilities and very friendly staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to our friends. The hotel is reasonably small and quiet, which is what we like, and located well out of the town centre but it is within walking distance if you like to stretch your legs. There is a courtesy bus down into town a couple of times in the morning if you don't fancy the walk. We thought the range of food on the evening menu was too narrow and that the standard was ok but nothing to write home about. We feel its best to book bed and breakfast which gives you more options in respect of the evening meal.

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor superior rooms for the best value/views

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your opinion. We are glad to learn that overall you enjoyed your holiday and that you would not hesitate to recommend Regency Cliff to your friends.

Regarding the evening meals we have 3 times per week thematic Buffets including a variety of salads, 5 main courses and 6 different deserts. On the other days we have our A la Carte Menu with a large variety of dishes, as well as, a set Menu that is different every day and includes soup, starter, main course (from a selection of 3 dishes) and desert.

We are sorry to hear that in your opinion our evening menu is too narrow but we have to accept that, although it is our aim, it is not always possible to please all our guests.

Regency Cliff Team looks forward to welcoming you in a very near future,

With Kind Regards

We just came back from a week in Madeira in this hotel. It is a very nice (small scale) hotel with excellent service and friendly staff. The highlight of the hotel in our opinion is the beautiful terrace with a nice view over the coast line and the sea. Every morning we enjoyd a fantastic breakfast in the sun on the terrace and also dinner is served there. They have a vegetarian menu, but you have to ask for it. During the day not much is done with the terrace and in our opinion that's a shame. We loved to sit there late in the afternoon after our daily activities, but it was difficult to get a drink there. The hotel seemed to want the guests to stay down at the swimming pool, but we didn't like it there very much because the pool is very small. The location of the hotel is very good, away from the very busy center of Funchal, but it was very easy to reach by bus and the hotel offers a free shuttle ride in the mornings and back to the hotel at the end of the day. The day we flew back we left the hotel too early for breakfast, but we got a continental breakfast served in our room the night before, which was excellent service!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to learn that overall you enjoyed your holiday at Madeira Regency Cliff.
Our Restaurant Mistral has in fact a beautiful terrace from which it is possible to enjoy a fantastic view of the ocean. The terrace is open all day but the service hours are: 07h30 till 11h30 and 17h30 till 23h30. During the day we have the Bar Oceanus open for lunch and drinks as it is located at the swimiing pool area. On request, it is possible to have lunch or a drink at the restaurant terrace at any time of the day.

We needed a short 5 day break somewhere warm and we looked again at Madeira, we did look around at other hotels just for variation but we decided that we couldn't fault the Madeira Regency Cliff last time we were there so it was crazy to try somewhere else.

Evening meals were excellent,(we were half board) and the staff were again superb in the way that they were friendly and helpful. We recognised most of the staff from our last visit so they must be happy working there and that came across in the level of service they provided.
I think the thing that I like best about this hotel is the balance they have in size, service and quality.

Again we used the taxi shuttle service they provide free of charge - one morning there was no room so we got the bus into Funchal - 2 euros so that fact that you are out of the main town is no great issue -even a regular taxi is only 6 euros back from town.

A lovely mix of nationality amongst the guests - which makes for a nice atmosphere.
What nice class of guest this hotel seems to attract..
Would definitely return again - am thinking that early December would be a good time.

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms looking over the Lido rather than the Pool - seem quieter.

My wife and I had a fantastic week at the Regency Cliff in June. This was our first holiday in Madeira and we are pleased to say we made our choice on the basis of TA Reviews; we were certainly not disappointed. Everything about the hotel exudes excellence. The only issue one could raise was that one of the breakfast waitresses could do with a good dose of 'happy' pills!!

The accommodation is excellent but folk need to realise (as denoted by the name) the hotel is built into the cliff so one enters reception on the 6th floor. The accommodation above reception is not part of the hotel but rather private apartments. The 59 bedrooms are all found below reception on floors 5 descending to 1.

The food was excellent although we can only comment on the breakfast. There was an excellent buffet to satisfy the most discerning of guests. The dinner was extremely popular given the numbers each night but there was a special promotion on for dinner so that may explain that.

We got the impression from conversation that a number of the other guests had stayed at the hotel previously which is a 'recommendation' in itself.

What particularly delighted us was the Manager's weekly reception. She freely mingled with guests and made us all feel most welcome. An excellent initiative underlining her confidence in her business.

The pool on Floor 1 is small. It is circular running about 7 metres in diameter and a constant 1.65M deep. If a swimming pool per se 'floats your boat' then you might want to look elsewhere. There is a poolside bar at which one can avail of lunch snacks.

There was entertainment several nights in the spacious hotel reception area.

Car parking was limited to about 3 spaces.

Now to some other data.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS: Due to our flight times we opted for a private transfer service (Madeira Airport Transfers) at a return cost of around £37. That experience was excellent and we can recommend it. The airport bus actually stops about 70 metres from the hotel so if your times work that is certainly an option.

BUSES: The bus service is very good and reasonably priced. One can pay the driver (a slightly higher cost of over 1 Euro) or purchase a pre-paid card in several places in Funchal. The bus to town from a stop close to the hotel is the 01 and 02. You should not have much longer than 20 minutes to wait. DO NOT GET ON THE Number 48 as it does NOT go to the City Centre.

The Number 48 bus actually takes you all the way to Monte - yes for just over a Euro and provides excellent views all over the City in the 45 - 60 minute journey.

SUPERMARKET and SHOPS: There is an excellent shopping mall called 'Forum Madeira' (see photographs) just over 5 minutes from the hotel. That is out of the hotel and to the left.

RESTAURANT: There are several close to the hotel and one that we can recommend is out of the hotel to the right and across the road called 'Marisqueira Monumental Grill'. It is nothing special but good value with a good menu.

I have attached a range of photographs to reflect comments and our experience.

I have stayed in many hotels in Asia, Europe, the US and Africa and can truthfully say this is 'right up there' in terms of great places to stay.

Room Tip: Probably better on Floors 2-5 remembering that Reception is Level 6 and all the bedrooms are on the...
