My Mother and I stayed here for a week in September in a Panoramic view room. The room was lovely with fabulous views over Funchal very comfortable indeed with a mini bar but no facilities to make tea or coffee which was quite expensive to buy in the hotel. The bed linen was changed daily as were the towels even tho it was not necessary, the bathroom was very dark with not enough lighting but this was our only complaint. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant for evening meals was very good although if you are a vegetarian as I am the selection was limited. The pool area was very quiet and there was no searching for a sun bed or 'brolly' as there were plenty available.I dont know how other guests can say it was an easy walk to Funchal as it most definately was not the road down was very steep and there were no pavements so you took your life in your own hands, taxis were plentiful and cheap.I would recommend the private transfers to and from the airport which the hotel can organise we had a lovely driver and a top of the range Merc.....All in all a lovely place to stay if you want peace and quiet and you want to unwind, not a hotel for frantic nightlife.

This was our first experience of Madeira, we wanted a quiet hotel where we could sit and relax with a good book. We were not disappointed the hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The view across the island from our room was amazing .We had one meal in the hotel on the night we arrived, the food and the service was very good, however, it felt a little formal and we wanted something more relaxed and headed towards the town. There are numerous restaurants to choose from.
We took the advice from others on trip adviser who had visited the island and managed to get a table at Olives, it's a basic menu but the food is lovely and the ambience is delightful. I would definitely go back to Madeira and would recommend the hotel. We also found the taxi fares really reasonable .

  • Liked — quietness with no children (mine have grown up we have done family hotels!)
  • Disliked — no tea and coffee facilities in the room

The hotel is in a prime position with good views across Funchal and the surrounding countryside. It's an easy 15 min walk into town but a long climb back - the bus or taxi is a good bet for that. The hotel premises are lovely, very spacious and beautifully furnished. Staff are friendly and efficient.

Minor disappointments, I would have liked a separate shower as well as the bath, the selection of TV channels was quite limited, but not much else wrong.

Restaurant is excellent, breakfast buffet very nice with lots of choice, and superb view from the terrace. Table d'hote menu in the evening really good. Lighter meals available at the bar are good and reasonably priced.

  • Liked — Overall standard of the accommodation
  • Disliked — Pool was rather small

My 2 sisters and I stayed in a triple room for 3 nights in February ans would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly - they even parked the car for me when I arrived after a late drive from the airport!! The room was easily big enough for 3 with a king bed and a single, and the third bed was a proper bed, not just a put-me-up. Breakfast was excellent with wonderful views of the town from high above Funchal. The pools were fabulous, allowing you to swim from inside to outside the hotel and catering for all weathers. Only minor drawback was that it was almost impossible to walk into town because of narrow steep roads from hotel downwards - however, taxis very cheap, less than 5 Euros each way.

Strongly recommend Madeira if you like touring or walking - beautiful mountains, views, and flowers wherever you look

We decided to go to Madeira as the weather would be pleasant at this time of year. Booked the hotel direct on their website and they had some good offers. The staff were delightful and very helpful. Breakfast was included and was good - a different selection of tropical fruit every day - all from the island. The hotel wasn't very busy and hence we didn't eat there. Disappointed with the "bar" food - sandwiches - don't bother with the cheese and ham toastie!! The walk from the hotel down to Funchal isn't very pleasant. There are two ways - down the road the hotel is on which has no pavements and the Madeirans drive fast. The other way which was a slight detour and did have a pavement was a boring walk. Get a taxi about 6 Euros. It's also a steep walk back up !

All in all a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend the hotel.
