“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

a bit concerned about some of the negative reviews but we were pleasantly surprised by our stay at MRC. Booked vias an RCI exchange and used to timeshare
often not delivering on arrival but here we had a friendly greeting form the always polite and efficient staff and had a one bed with sea view throughout our stay. Apartment and public areas (especially the lovely central marble staircase) cleaned every day. Kitchen and bathroom ok for what we wanted as we spend 80% of our time out either visiting central Funchal - old town only 15 minutes flat walk - or on levada walks. Surprised pool closed at 6.00 pm when we were often returning home and balked at being charged 2.50 euros for an umbrella at 5.15 in the evening. The pool area could also borrow some design features from hotel next door and install some trees/plants etc. otherwise this are is a bit of a soulless concrete bowl. No heavy selling or pestering to buy more weeks (usually one of the annoying aspect of RCI exchanges) and I'd consider staying again if returning to Funchal.

Just returned form ten nights in Madeira - lovely hotel but needs upgrading. Our 6th stay and we love it but the rooms are very tired. some of the décor is damaged and carpets need replacing.
We have carried on going hoping that the work on the sea front would be completed and although I realise this is to upgrade the defence they need from the sea it makes visiting Funchal a chore.
the staff at the Regency Club are super and so helpful it is a pleasure to stay there. we hope to return in the future as it is still the best view of the island. ++++

Room Tip: free Wi-Fi in lobby and yacht bar.

The staff were very friendly, the location is excellent.
Unfortunatly the jetty which allowed sea access was smashed and roped off. This smashed up concerete didnt give a very nice view out to the sea.
Our initial apartment was very run down with threadbare carpets and cupboard doors hanging off. When we pointed this out we were moved to a 2 bed apartment which was much nicer.
The hotel do a package of 3 meals/enertainment for 60 euros (inc wine) - which was very good value - the food was good and the staff helpful (i am vegetarian and there was very little veggie options but they always were willing to make an ommlette)
If you get a chance to dine at The Fort do so - its excellent!

Room Tip: Higher up = better views (floor 8 is the best)

Me and my partner we had the wonderful opportunity to stay in Madeira Regency club. From the moment we arrive the receptionist Zita Alves kindly upgrade us for room with plenty of space and sea view. next morning me and my partner been late for breakfast and the waiter went extra mile to arrange something for us to eat even she know the breakfast time was Finnish. Thank you for making my holidays so special. for sure we'll be back.

Room Tip: 507 quiet and spacious

Booked this hotel based on all excellent reviews for this hotel, that was a misstake. There is nothing in this hotel that is more than average. Service and smiles seems to be to be very hard to get in many places in Madeira and so also in this hotel.

Most staff seems to work really hard to avoid contact and any kind of service, was it not for the staff in the breakfast/pool bar it would be an even lower score.

Just returned from our annual summer stay at our second home, once again, most things were as normal, staff as always remarkably professional, polite and efficient. We used the sun beds most days apart from a trip, with our friends, for a full day around the west side of the island, the driver and very knowledgable guide,Rui,took us to the usual and not so usual stops, with lunch at Restaurant Orca in Porta Moniz a very pleasant day was had by all.
Looking forward to doing it all again very soon,

We stayed on a self catering basis. We only wanted to make breakfast, hot drinks and sandwiches but we could have cooked a full meal if we had wanted with the equipment provided. Only criticism is that there were not enough power points in the kitchen so could only use 2 appliances (not counting the fridge) at one time. Two Spa shops within easy walking distance for shopping and an easy walk into town too.

The hotel staff were excellent and so was the restaurant when we chose to use it and not one near by.
