“felt pampered once again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

My husband, my friend and I returned to the RS for 3 weeks in February and had a wonderful time once again. It is like returning to see family, the same staff are there and the welcome to go with it. We ate in the hotel 18 nights out of 21 and the meals in the Dining room cannot be praised too highly . We have teiwd a lit of thw reataurants in the past and still have a few dacourites that we always visit once but the horel is such goid value if you buy the dinner or half board vouchers. We attended the carnival night special evening and heard the wonderful Russian opera singer. She had an amazing voice .
My only comment would be that the menu should be changed occasionally as I stay twice a year with my friend and she stays with us twice a year. The meals are taken outside in summer months which we enjoy but also love a February break from the British winter!!
Bruno, Gilberto, Jose , Miguel , Leticia, Katya to mention just a few who help to make our holiday so enjoyable, as are Nuno and the staff on reception , and Gill in the Vacation club office . All the staff work so hard to please the guests .
There is plenty to see around the island and it is such a safe island to holiday in. The loungers are comfortable , the pools spotlessly clean and overall a perfect holiday. The entertainment has improved a lot , the drinks are a bit pricey which tends to drive some of the guests out if the hotel. It is mostly timeshare but it is nice to meet other guests who are on an exchange programme and they are always very impressed with the Royal Savoy . I can't wait for my next visit .

Dont get me wrong, love returning to the Royal Savoy. Our recent visit was our third. Particularly enjoy breakfast in the main dining room, the staff are always attentive and friendly. Its location is a big plus. The outside areas are kept immaculate and even in March my wife enjoyed a daily dip in the outdoor pool.
However it was dissapointing to find that our room was less clean than any previous visit.
A resort of this quality - and price - should have the floors in guests rooms well cleaned upon arrival...our was not ... nor did it have other than a cursory flooring clean during the week. The balcony door glass were also only partly cleaned so very smeary too.
This alone will not stop us returning but regret not being able to give a usual 5 start report for the RS.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea. A higher floor obviously improves views.

Stayed here in February - first time we have been here at this time of year. Temperature was in low low 60s or 18 /19 degrees. Lots warmer than the UK but did not feel warm enough to swim outside but we did sunbathe or some days and got quite a tan on some days. It was hot enough to sit out and eat at lunchtime but had to eat inside in the evenings. Hotel was still as lovely as ever. Service very good. The rooms are well specced with everything you could need in the kitchen. The cleaners come in every day and fold your nightear into fancy shapes and leave little chocolates on the pillows. Love the decor, especially all the Tribal art collection and the view from the room. The only downside was the lack of wi-fi, you have to pay to be wired in.
There is still lots to do at this time of year. One day we hired a taxi to Porto Monix. We have been here for the swimming in the summer but it was fantastic to see it in the winter. The waves were enormous and the sea looked like a boiling cauldron - see our photos but on shore there was no wind and you could sit on the edge of the sea with a coffee taking in the sun but next to a raging sea. Amazing.
It was lovely to get some sunshine at this time of year - would recommend a winter visit.

Have stayed at Savoy so many times that I have lost count! It never disappoints.
Staff are superb in all respects and when we arrive we feel as if we have come home.
Our appartment is kept in an immaculate condition by unfailingly cheerful maids. If anything ever
goes wrong it is promptly fixed. Can't wait for my next visit in July

Room Tip: They are all good

I have visited this resort regularly since 2002, as a vacation timeshare owner. The self catering apartments are very comfortable, clean and spacious, with every comfort ), with superb balcony views over the ocean. It is difficult for find criticism, as the service is always excellent and quality exceptional. It is a perfect place to completely unwind, relax and recharge. The pools are beautiful, and the weather usually good, with a gentle breeze from the ocean. The atrium and hallways are full of beautiful paintings and antiques, and there is a good library of books. I once had a tour of the kitchens, and was extremely impressed. I think it has won an international award for hygiene. I have been to other timeshare resorts, and nothing so far has anywhere near matched the experience. I really feel at home here. The only negative is that poolside snacks are expensive , but the surroundings compensate for this.

For two weeks every year the Royal Savoy is our home from home. We meet our old friends which includes the staff. All the rooms face the sea and look down on the pools and sun lounger area. The breakfasts exceptional and restaurant caters for every need.
The rooms are very comfortable and the facilities for self catering are superb. We tend to visit various restaurants in the area for the evening meal but when we eat in the Royal Savoy the service is exemplary.

Everything about this hotel is genuinely first class. We exchanged into the hotel through Interval International and thoroughly enjoyed our week in a one bedroom two bathroom suite. The accommoadtion was spacious, spotless, modern and, despite being on the second floor, had a superb view. We were bang in the middle of the hotel (Room 1221) and had a wide and very attractive balcony upon which we enjoyed almost all our breakfasts, most of our lunches and many evening pre-prandial drinks. The facilities for swimming in the sea (yes, we swam on four days of our seven in the Atlantic in January/February), in the outside pools (one deliberately much warmer than the other) and the indoor pool (not that we used it) were excellent. The maid service was welcome and efficient, Reception staff (thank you Marlene) were polite, helpful and friendly and all aspects of the hotel were up to scratch. The drinks and food, especially at the pool bar, were definitely five star in price, which is fair enough if you want to enjoy being served your choice in lovely surroundings with excellent service; in our case we restricted ourselves to the occasional coffee since the room facilities were more than adequate for drinks and light meals and the position of the hotel is such that several good quality restaurants are within easy walking distance. We are lucky enough to be able to enjoy walking and so walked every day into the old quarter (about half-an-hour, mainly downhill) where there is a wide selection of restaurants, and frequently back again. The hill up to the hotel is steep but a taxi back is only five or six euros. If you get the opportunity to visit Madeira, which is beautiful, and the Royal Savoy is available we would recommend without reservation that you jump at the chance. We loved the second floor because of the buzz and the lively view but if you prefer seclusion and the wide horizon go higher. Wherever you are the sea will dominate your view.

Room Tip: See above - I don't think you'll find a bad one!
