Everything about this hotel is genuinely first class. We exchanged into the hotel through Interval International and thoroughly enjoyed our week in a one bedroom two bathroom suite. The accommoadtion was spacious, spotless, modern and, despite being on the second floor, had a superb view. We were bang in the middle of the hotel (Room 1221) and had a wide and very attractive balcony upon which we enjoyed almost all our breakfasts, most of our lunches and many evening pre-prandial drinks. The facilities for swimming in the sea (yes, we swam on four days of our seven in the Atlantic in January/February), in the outside pools (one deliberately much warmer than the other) and the indoor pool (not that we used it) were excellent. The maid service was welcome and efficient, Reception staff (thank you Marlene) were polite, helpful and friendly and all aspects of the hotel were up to scratch. The drinks and food, especially at the pool bar, were definitely five star in price, which is fair enough if you want to enjoy being served your choice in lovely surroundings with excellent service; in our case we restricted ourselves to the occasional coffee since the room facilities were more than adequate for drinks and light meals and the position of the hotel is such that several good quality restaurants are within easy walking distance. We are lucky enough to be able to enjoy walking and so walked every day into the old quarter (about half-an-hour, mainly downhill) where there is a wide selection of restaurants, and frequently back again. The hill up to the hotel is steep but a taxi back is only five or six euros. If you get the opportunity to visit Madeira, which is beautiful, and the Royal Savoy is available we would recommend without reservation that you jump at the chance. We loved the second floor because of the buzz and the lively view but if you prefer seclusion and the wide horizon go higher. Wherever you are the sea will dominate your view.
