From the moment the Concierge welcomes you at the door you are pampered. The décor is amazing everywhere you turn is antiques. The rooms are spacious well equipped and spotless. The staff are efficient and extremely polite and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant, should you choose to make use of it, must suit everyone’s requirements, there is everything that anyone could wish for on the breakfast buffet and the choices available at both lunchtime and in the evening should satisfy the most discerning guest, with the option to dine al fresco should you wish. Add to this the beautiful grounds which go right down to the shoreline with secluded areas to relax, not to mention the choice of swimming pools both indoor and outdoor something for everyone. Of course should you prefer to cater for yourself then everything you require is provided in your apartment all you need to do is to shop and with the wonderful market with its fantastic selection of fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruit to choose from it is a cook’s paradise. We would certainly recommend this to anyone wishing for a truly relaxing holiday in a very quiet area of Funchal but within easy reach of the centre should you wish to explore the wonderful selection of restaurants situated there.

Excellent hotel. Everything you need for self catering apartment. Rooms cleaned and bed linen and towels changed every day. Artwork and chocolates on bed every day.Terrific amenities. Wonderful service.

I would have liked Wifi in my suite on the 4th floor but it only seemed to be accessible on the 1st.

We have owned timeshare at the Royal Savoy since 2004, visiting the island of Madeira, at both Christmas and in April. The apartments are superb, comfortable and with splendid views of the sea. (Except perhaps for some of the corner apartments). The great merit of Funchal, is that there are many restaurants, catering for a good lunch at 7 or 8 euros or the more expensive restaurants for a good night out. With the Royal Savoy, we can self-cater from inexpensive supermarkets and then treat ourselves at the more expensive restaurants on other nights. Do not ignore the Portugese wines at several euros. They do not pay the tax on alcohol that we do. Yes, the prices in the hotel are quite high but the time may come for all of us, when we cannot travel too far. This Christmas was the best ever, with temperatures around 21 for the three weeks we were resident. There is also plenty of culture and botanical gardens to visit. We cannot wait for April to come round again.
