“Pre christmas break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

First visit to this Hotel and would return anytime. Very large rooms all overlooking the pool and sea. All public rooms to a very high standard with excellent facilities.
One gripe the drinks very expensive so not many people drink in the bar so it lacks atmosphere. Situated very close to the town so walking in and out of Funchal was a pleasure.

“Winter break at The Royal Savoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This hotel always lives up to its 5 star rating. Ideally situated in Funchal, within walking distance of the harbour, it offers excellent accommodation and facilities coupled with a high standard of cuisine.

“Nice November Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Our first visit to the Royal Savoy and hope to return again next year.

All staff friendly and professional, our room was large and comfortable and very clean, housekeeping even rang our bell one day to ask if everything was okay with our room.

Enjoyed the pools both indoor and out, only gripe was that on several occasions the used towel bin for the indoor pool was overflowing and no clean towels were available unless you went upstairs to the spa or went outside, seemed to be like that for several days in a row. The sauna and steam room were very small and the tropical shower was not working when we tried to use it.

Enjoyed lunch and dinner there, food and service excellent, not a fan of themed buffets but other guests seemed to enjoy that type of thing along with the entertainment.

All in all we had a very pleasant relaxing stay.

“For excellent friendly service you won't get better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

I have been staying at the Royal Savoy twice a year for the last 10 years, I have enjoyed the service and friendly atmosphere and always look forward to returning. You will not be disappointed if you try a visit and would not be surprised if you return.

“November sunshine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

This was our fifth visit to Madeira and our second stay at the Royal Savoy. Unlike the majority of guests, we are not timeshare owners and therefore choose to stay in one of the hotel's twelve standard rooms. Both rooms we have been allocated have been of excellent standards of cleanliness and comfort and more than adequate for our needs. The hotel serves superb buffet breakfasts. We prefer to stay on a b&b basis as there are so many excellent restaurants nearby on Rua Imperatriz. Don Amelia is a particular favourite, but there are also less expensive choices on offer such as Italian and Thai restaurants. The only negative about some of the restaurants is the lack of space between some of the tables. Booking a table in advance generally resulted in a more private table being allocated.
The evening entertainment in the hotel was well supported. It usually starts at 9:45pm and is on for about an hour. The dance shows were particularly impressive, as was the bar manager's memory for our choice of after dinner drinks!
The hotel is very well placed for walks in and around Funchal. The day time temperatures in November were very pleasant and although we had some light showers (and one dramatic downpour) we would certainly be happy to visit the island again at this time of year. Having stayed at three other hotels in and around Funchal, the Royal Savoy remains a firm favourite.

Room Tip: I strongly recommend anyone booking a standard room requests one on the eighth floor (reception leve...
