“Cheers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Of all the things to do in Funchal this is one of the best. Take a guided tour of Blandy's Wine Lodge and you will discover how the famous Madeira wine is made (in fact very similar to how the Spanish make Sherry). Our young female guide was very good and made our visit most enjoyable. At the end of the tour you get to taste three and five year old Madeira wines. (Tip: if you came with a flight bag only there is a Blandy's shop in departures at Madeira airport). Blandy's wines are also available from Waitrose in the UK, but it is obviously cheaper to buy at the airport. Make sure you visit Blandy's whilst in Funchal. I even got the Blandy's T-shirt!

“Wonderful history and an hour well spent.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife and I were fortunate enough to arrive at exactly the right time when the guide was about to take a group of 6 British people on the tour. She spoke superb English. For 5 Euro's 50 each we had a fantastic hour long tour of the factory with the full story of it's British history right up to the present 7th generation Blandy family, complimented by 2 very good measures of the superb Blandy's Madeiran Sweet and Dry wine. The museum houses some remarkable original hand written Journals from hundreds of years ago. Tip: buy your wine at the factory to take home in your case, or at Funchal Airport to take as hand luggage. I didn't and to buy it at home is 30% more expensive (exactly as my wife said it would be!)

“brandy/madeira to enjoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Great place, lots of interest, lots to learn and lots to taste, what more could you ask when you do not have to drive anywhere? Each time we go to Madiira we choose another Madeira wine to try and as yet have not been disappointed.

“Not impressed save your money.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

The tour guide was rushing us through we did not have enough time to read all the information on the wall posters the only saving grace was that you got a couple of glasses in the tasting room.More of a sales pitch than an informative tour. The only thing I learnt was the tour guide had expensive tastes and liked chocolate. Not worth bothering with.
