“Keeping it simple but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We stayed for 3 nights literally as we were travelling a lot - getting up early, returning in the evening. All we needed was a nice place to sleep over with wifi and parking. Although the wifi access is limited to the public living room, you might be also able to get it in your room depending on the phone. The staff was helpful and offered the possibility to park the rented car in the lot reserved for the residents nearby. There was however enough room on the street as well. Breakfast included was reasonable for the price. You can enjoy the small terrace with the bar in the front to plan your next day or just have an ice cream. And yes, you need to walk up the steep street to reach the property what might become a bit annoying for someone after few days. Otherwise it is quite close to the city centre.

First, the hill that the hotel is situated on is not a problem at all, unless you have mobility issues or carrying heavy load! P.S. take taxi if you arrive with luggages or rent a car. There isn't ample of on street parking around but we did not struggle to park over the seven days we have spent.
Because of it's location on the hill it is actually rewarding with views and tranquility, away from the old town noise. We were lucky to get top double room with balcony opening to Funchal and see view! Count it 10 - 15mins to go down to the old town and restaurants and 20-25min to come back by foot up the hill.
Staff - I was stunned of the warmth and welcome we got! It is actually the highlight of this hotel. The staff were truly excellent & helpful.
The room was clean, equiped with all you need except hairdryer. ..well TV didn't stream very well either but since we didn't come for TV it didn't bother.
One major disadvantage that we unfortunately got to know about thanks God only for the last few nights were thin and extremely not sound proof walls....so if you get overexcited neighbours or unpolite and unsensible with noise and time appreciation as we did - you may not sleep as well. Other than that the hotel is bargain!
Breakfast not a feast but certainly will keep you well stuffed till lunch and again to my surprise there were lots of fruits! (no eggs though for those who need them).
Other bonus was that the food store was just few minutes away down hill if you wanted to get water, wine or snacks for the evening.

So overall, better than expected!

I cant say enough about the warm friendly caring family here..! nothing was too much trouble for them.. Its not really a Hotel but more a guesthouse/pension .It has no pool ,and no entertainment just a small patio area outside with lovely views and also from the rooms.. I found the steep hill very exhausting to come back up every day , so it was easier to stay out and have a meal than change and do this trip 4 times ! The walk is 15 mins into the center and plenty of places to eat.
There are lots of Buses and if you intend to use them a lot then purchase a weeks pass ( much cheaper) from the terminal down on the marina..Please be careful in the Market because they can sting you !! R do Vale very clean, and quiet except for the local Dogs.. Breakfast simple & basic ... As much as i loved the family and its value for money i wouldnt return because of the Hill...

Room Tip: num 44 top floor --lovely views !!

surprising good this little hotel pension was surprising good for me. good price and quality. clean rooms, not much noise from the traffic, only some dogs noise in the evening, good breakfast and friendly people. this place is 10 minutes walking from the boulevard. only the last 200 meters are hilly, 20%!!, if i go back to Funchal than this is the place for me.
