I was in this hotel as 2 people (twin bed) for 6 nights on a superior room on 8th floor (reception is 2th floor, swimming pool 1st floor, spa and park in 0). The view was amazing to Funchal Harbor.
I booked early check in and late check out (i booked one month before) but when i arrived i was informed due to full booking would not be possible. However, the hotel offered us a free lunch in pool restaurant and a dinner in normal restaurant (buffet dinner). I was impressed with this.
Notice that i also rented a car so i can not review how far it is from places....since i always took car to fully walk through whole island.
Also, i am surprised that people find LAN cable a surprise (it is well stated on their website).
For me the point to improve for a 4 star hotel, is quality of breakfast (specially the fruit...sometimes it comes directly from fridge...what is too cold) and quality of juices.
On the superior room, i liked the free slippers and bathrobs and welcome drinks (water, orange juice, coke).
Also the elevator time i agree but i noticed something funny. There are 3 elevators but only 2 are used for 80% of people.
I would recommend to hotel to turn the 3rd elevator ONLY for superior rooms and suites (top 5 floors). Using this elevator for up and down maximum wait was 3 min. The other 2 could be 10 minutes as stated in other reviews.
I would like also to make a personal note:
Some people complain the hotel should be not 4*.
I paid 70 euros/night for a room with Funchal Bay view , free slippers and bathrobles, and free SPA entry.
In Lisbon, an IBIS hotel is 65 euros/day. So i am absolutely amazed with this hotel specially how to maintain 2 pools, sauna, jacuzzi and parking.
Choose superior room due to view and free welcome drinks and free slippers and bathrobe.
