Really interesting old bar on the street of doors. Recommended wine was excellent and so were the tapas on offer. Chorico flamed at the table, wrinkled potatoes all excellent. Tastiest lunch we had in Funchal.
Strongly recommended when you want a drink and bite to eat rather than a formal meal.

“A bar with a history”

And great food too.
The bar was named after a famous Madeiran prostitute who worked from no 81, three doors down. Her name was Doña Joana-Rabo-de-Peixe and her tales were written by Joao Carlos Abreu. It was one of the first houses/cafes to be involved in the painted doors project and it celebrates the literary traditions of Madeira and Funchal's Old Town in particular.

It was a seriously hot morning and they serve a welcoming beer. Like other reviewers, I stayed on for a snack and I will certainly be going back.

The fish cakes are wonderful - and I also have my eye on their octopus. But that's for another day.......

“Stopped for a beer and stayed for dinner”

Found this little restaurant/bar while strolling down the RUA SANTA MARIA looking at the wonderfully painted doors. It`s hard work so a beer was calling.
We saw what others were eating and decided to stay for dinner it all looked so good. So impressed we ate there again on a second night. Great atmosphere, wonderful food. We will be back

It is a lovely place to enjoy a special night or just to hang out with good company.
Wonderful drinks, food, music, poetry and exquisite atmosphere!
