Owner description: we love our island and love to show and give you the real Madeira! The Up Mountain Madeira tours started in the beginning of 2012 , taking our visitors as friends that want to see and try Madeira, far away from the tourist crowds and boring, soulless tours and trafic tourist convoys. Our tours are always done by a certified guide, by foot or in an open classic UMM jeep, all done in a very calm safe and relaxed way. we have our shared jeep regular tours, with max 7 persons and also can tailor out your tour, for you and your party, focusing what you love the most, so if you think you got what it's needed, and brave enough to leave your cosy sofa, to really live Madeira, take a ride with us. discover the real traditional places, markets and people. Madeira is famous for its exuberant nature and its fantastic climate, but also for its people hospitality..and we know that Madeira has so much to offer and best is hiking trails, paths and levadas by foot or by jeep.No Crowds, No Rush, small groups, great adventures! we are a certified and bounded tourism animation company by the Portuguese government under license 118/M/2011 and all our activities are covered and insured

“Ever picked a passion-fruit banana?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We (3 adults and a 12 year old) opted for the full day tour going west, and it was fabulous: exciting, exhilarating and full of surprises. The places we saw were breathtakingly beautiful and we got to absorb it through all our senses. At one point, our guide reached out and picked us some eucalyptus leaves to rub together - instant 'Vicks'! Another time we went foraging for berries and a fruit none of us will ever forget - the passion-fruit banana; it looks like a regular banana but peel it for a surprise! We'd like to say a word about Miguel our guide and driver. Throughout the day he kept us entertained with history, knowledge and humour. We were all made to feel very welcomed and he did utmost to ensure we remained smiling. His passion for the island made this trip a most memorable one.

Lunch was pretty good - a set three course meal with wine (choice of chicken, beef or fish) for ten euros and we had time to paddle around the outdoor pools in Porto Moniz afterwards. We all loved that we could stand up in the jeep but look out for the odd low branch! We saw old stone houses, a farm, waterfalls and other rural delights, off the beaten track. And as we headed home, Miguel kindly gave us his own recommendations of places to visit/dine/experience with all the information we needed, which enabled us to eat at good restaurants and experience things we might have overlooked. We highly recommend this trip and say a huge thank you to Miguel.

“Fantastic day out !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

We did not actually go with Up Mountain Madeira as he was full, but he sub-contracted to friend who took us on his behalf. Apparently this is fairly common so do not be put off. Ticket prices do tend to vary so shop around. The €10 lunch was excellent value; soup, a choice of 5 main courses, fruit salad, water, red & white wine and coffee included ! We were collected at 9.00am and returned about 5.15pm. At first we thought there was not a lot of off road - how wrong we were ! The guide was not as informative as we had on the Levada walks, but the whole day more than. compensated for this. We did the full day East tour.

Hello my friend, im really happy you had a good day out.

You see we are a very small company, and get very limited seats..(6/7) so get full very easily.

But what probably happen was that i falled down, and need to take 3 weeks on relaxation, so im not doing any tours right now ( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=498791693542371&set=a.455983837823157.1073741826.396736883747853&type=1&theater )

We didnt sub-contracted my friend, as he also does have a tour company, and took you in one of his tours. So probably wen you were in one of the very few shops were i have a friend that is able to advise of my tours, as knowing what happened maybee booked you with him!

The ticket prices for Up Mountain Madeira dont vary, as we charge allways 39€ for a full day and 30€ for a half day, and advise you some good places to eat at a good price, like thoise 10€ menu :P

Thank you once more for your kind words, and hope that you come back some day, and take a tour with us :)

Best Regards

Nicolau

“Madeira as it should be seen!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Not only memories of the fascinating feeling being above the clouds, driving along muddy roads, exploring wild flowers and herbs, drinking best poncha in Madeira, but also a lot of picturesque photos in the albums, the smell of eucalyptus seeds and leaves on the table at home reminds us that unforgettable open jeep tour!

Obrigado Nicolau! Labai labai ačiū!!!

Best wishes from Lithuania!
Dalia

“Excellent Company”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Allways use this company for trips have been on a good few.Drivers are the best can speak several languages know the roads backwards and most important are excellent drivers. You go deep into the forest on roads mainly used by farmers and loggers. You see Madeira in a different light when you go into the mountains weather can be fine in Funchal and wet there but sometimes as on my June trip Funchal cloudy but mountains generally clear and sunny.I allways book through Happy Tours if Marco uses them they are the best. There are some whose standards are not as good cheaper perhaps but not as good and safe.
