Small city hotel with a superb location in the center of Funchal. Short distance to everything.. I have tried many hotels around the World, but never any with such a friendly and helpfull staff. Everyone from the room personel to restaurant and last, but not least, the reception, offer a professionel yet personel service. it was a pleasure to stay there!

We just came back from a week's holiday in this hotel. On the whole it's a good place, as previously mentioned it is located right in the city centre, near supermarkets, cathedral etc.
Breakfast was continental but with plenty of fruit, cheese, cold meat, croissants and bread. No sausages or eggs, but this is often the case in 3 star hotels in Portugal.

Make sure you get a room that doesn't face the street, or it will be noisy at night.

The room furniture was old but the hotel was clean. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Hotel's best advantage is it's location in the centre of Funchal. It was clean enough but our room unfortunately had to remain " curtains closed " because of the building directly across the narrow road looking straight into our room. Sheets were not changed during our entire stay. The breakfasts were appalling. The fruit juices were so diluted that they tasted of nothing. The coffee from a machine likewise was appalling. After 2 days we went out for breakfast which was so cheap and good that there is no excuse for any hotel providing such a bad breakfast. The Reception staff were fantastic , so helpful and obliging. Would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Quiet location but that's it.

Traveled here for a week during carnival
Best value you could ask for I feel like I got way more than I paid for.
Location perfect city center with full service supermarket, hairdresser, restaurants, and world class shopping right at your doorstep.
Restaurant has a nice menu with something for everyone, breakfast is basic but plentiful.
All staff were amazing and as I work in a hotel I do not say that lightly .
Special thanks and praise for Lionel in the restaurant who went out of his way to make sure you are happy and Christina on the front desk who was flat out the best. She spent the time to find out what we wanted out of our trip then planned and booked a whole week of activities with us nothing was to much trouble. Her patience and professionalism are really something to rave about.
In addition all staff seemed to speak at 1 second language, most more than 1 I watched Christina switch from English to French to Portuguese really impressive
If you want a great value city center hotel this is it, Enjoy

Three Brits and an American decide to visit Madeira for a week...sounds like a beginning to a bad joke. Anything but. Arrived early, due to an early flight from Heathrow, no problem. Leave your bags, here's a map, see you soon. Returned, nice room, very clean, couldn't do enough for you.

Elsa, behind the desk, is definitely in charge. I love that. Ask for an opinion and you'll get it. Sent us off to Santana one day to see her sister in a play during Carnival....too much rain, we had to leave but the parade was cool.

Poor Susanna was in a car accident during our visit, hope you're feeling better.

Lena was very good to us....wish those buses were better to her.

This hotel is great....see you soon.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new tower, a bit loud on the main street.

We could not fault the hotel for cleanliness but the food was very poor. The breakfast was the same every day unless you wanted to pay for extras i.e. egg or bacon. The juice was so diluted and the quality of cheese and meat was very cheap.
We were on half-board and we dined alone almost every evening. It seems the other guests had read the reviews on TripAdvisor. There was no point in looking at the menu as it did not apply to us. Not even one bread roll each. We had one roll sliced between two. We were offered very little choice – it was either/or on every occasion. First course was vegetable soup on 6 nights and we tried a cod salad where we could hardly find the cod. The salads usually contained cold diced vegetables probably from the previous meal. For main course we had 4 evenings of various parts of a chicken (one was only akin to an omelette), 2 evenings of fatty belly pork and one of grilled, thin steak. There was no choice of vegetables as the meals came ready plated with broccoli, courgette and carrot on every evening. Even when the potato was replaced with rice it still came with the same vegetables. On two occasions we were lucky to get a few mange tout. Dessert was just as bad. We had fruit salad most evenings as the other desserts came round on a regular basis. The banoffee pie and the chocolate mousse were in the fridge all week. In the end we asked for ice cream – just two small balls – and the waiter took some persuading to let me had one spoon of fruit and one ball of ice-cream in the same dish. Bed and breakfast would have been a far better option.
If only we knew then what we know now. We appreciate that it was not high season for the hotel but on the other hand we paid our money in good faith. It is a pity that half board was offered then we would not have been in that position and we could have chosen from the complete menu or dined elsewhere.

Room Tip: In the city centre but not much else going for it.

My wife and I have just enjoyed our third visit to the Windsor hotel, welcome by the staf.f .We were surprised to see new owners of the restaurant who introduced themselves as Leo and Tanya a very nice young couple .the staff were as always happy ,helpful and nothing is too much trouble .Wi-Fi is now free using your own devise but we couldn't get it in our room.no trouble in reception .New televisions in the rooms and reception Rooms kept nice and clean
breakfast still continental plenty of it with added coffee and fruit juice machines. The hotel is central to shops the sea front. There is a new menu for evening meals with a good choice. the chefs special is a soup that's delicious and filling.
