“Fabulous incredible hotel experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

We can only say the best things about this hotel and the Miramar which is the time sharing attached to it.The location is gret, the facilities outstanding except that the pool and gym are only open 8 - 8 and too often we weren't around.l The staff was totally accomodating and everything was great. The beds not hard enough for us but otherwise they met all of our needs and then some. Great choice unless you must have WIFI in the room, this was a major drawback and most inconvenient only in the lobby. Get a room on a high floor for the fabulous views of this sensational island. Can't comment on the food or lobby entertainment but the tourist services and all the staff couldn't be beat.

Room Tip: ask for high up and see if they are improving the wifi service.

We had arranged for a group of our friends to accompany us to Madeira this year, and required 4 apartments, although we own in the Pestana Carlton Beach club they did not have enough space for us and suggested the Village Resort. We were a little uneasy as first but decided to take the reservation at the Village.
What a pleasant surprise. I phoned the resort and explained we were a large group of 8, and would like have apartments as close as possible, they said they would try, but I did not expect to much as this was Easter. however on arrival we were greeted by friendly helpful staff, who had gone that extra mile to make sure apartments were as close as possible.
The apartments were spacious, light and airy apartments with good quality furnishings and well fitted kitchens. spotlessly clean. The housekeeping was very good, with friendly helpful staff once again.
There is a steep hill entrance to the complex, but this is explained in the description of the resort. A bit of exercise is good for you, and if not take a taxi, they are very reasonably priced in Madeira. Although we ate out each evening the dining room always seemed full as we passed so that must speak for itself.
The Resort is so peaceful, the garden magnificent, it is a little paradise on a beautiful Island. Our group could find no faults with this resort, everything is as it says in the description of the Resort or even better, we would have no hesitation in returning again. I can honestly say I feel as if I have had a holiday.

Room Tip: we were in apartments 3301, 3100,3008, and 3208. Rooms on higher floors may be better. all rooms are...

This aparthotel is located in a peaceful area of the resort in landscaped gardens. Our studio (2104) balcony overlooked the pool. Although this is one of Pestana's older resorts it was well maintained. All the staff that we came into contact with were friendly & polite.
The nearby Spar shop stocks the basics but is expensive, but for 56 euros each you can purchase six breakfasts in the restaurant. In the evening we ate out in the numerous nearby restaurants.
It is worth attending the welcome meeting to obtain your free bottle of Madeira wine & a Pestana vacation club discount card. This card gives you ten percent discount off drinks & food in local restaurants.
I would recommend Restaurant X Tonel, but book because it is popular. It serves a variety of lovely British and local food. The Pizzeria Luigi is also worth a mention.
Both restaurants are only a couple of minutes walk and accept the discount card.
We only went on one organised trip, booked via the Members Rep, and that was a full day jeep safari to western side of the island. The coast & mountain scenery was stunning, and the jeep takes you to the areas that the bus tours can not access.
My only regret is that we only stayed for one week

Room Tip: If staying in a studio apartment request one that is situated on the upper floor. Some of the balco...

Thoroughly enjoyed a week at the Village, lovely surroundings, well kept resort, peaceful. Good size studio apartment, well equipped, although cooking facilities fairly minimal. Lovely view from balcony, very comfortable bed! Gardens delightful and so well kept, photo opportunities galore. Drinks and food in the hotel fairly expensive. It would have been nice to have a plan of the hotel in each room as it is a large area and not too easy to find the way round. Also there could have been more entertainment provided in the lounge and information on what is happening. The guests receptions were very good and informative and the tours on offer were excellent.

Room Tip: Would not want to be in a ground floor apartment, views non existent and people walking past frequen...

We exchanged two weeks of our timeshare for two weeks in the Pestana Village Aparthotel at the end of February 2013. Our apartment was a studio i.e. it had one room plus a bathroom. Having said that it was a large and spacious room with two easy chairs, a dining table and two chairs, a kitchenette, two single beds pushed together, and a large balcony with table and two chairs. It was absolutely fine for the two of us. The little kitchenette was well equipped with a kettle, coffee filter machine, toaster, microwave with grill and a hob with two solid hotplates. We tended to have breakfast and lunch in our room and eat out in the evening at one of the many local restaurants. We didn't use the hotel restaurants or bars at all - they all seemed fairly pricey.

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and we were lucky enough to have a view over the gardens from the balcony. We were not lucky enough to have good weather during our stay, although it was warmer than the UK! All the staff were very pleasant and the apartment was well maintained. Unusually for timeshare, we had a daily maid service and towels and beds were changed regularly. Also unusual for timeshare, washing up liquid, tea towels, soap, shampoo and shower gel were all provided. The apartment also had a hairdryer in the bathroom, and iron and ironing board, an electric heater and blankets (it did get cold at times) and towels for the pool. In fact we were short of nothing that we needed.

The hotel is in a good location - about 15 minutes walk in to the centre of Funchal - a lovely town that has retained a lot of its charm. There is a large supermarket in the town but the walk back is uphill and hard work if you are carrying a lot of heavy bags. There is a small Spar shop two minutes from the hotel which has all the basics but is probably more expensive. We chose to shop there and found everything that we needed but we only needed things for breakfast and lunch. There is also an excellent 'Pastelaria' close by that sells wonderful cakes and coffee. We also bought sandwiches to take out from there on our last day when we had run out of supplies!

We went on three organised levada walks. We had intended to do the walks on our own but we would have needed a hire car to get to the start of most of the walks and it was probably safer and more fun to do them in a group. We met several other couples of similar age on these walks and met up for a meal and drinks with them later in the holiday.

We enjoyed our holiday and would recommend the Pestana Village hotel particularly to couples looking for a relaxing time - a few walks, leisurely meals and restful days/early nights. There's not much for children to do besides the pool and there are few nightclubs for party animals. Bliss!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the gardens - they really are something worth seeing.

The attention to historical detail about the hotel property, makes it a spectacular location in Funchal. Each aspect adds to its photogenic value. Rooms are comfortable with balconies giving a wonderful view of spectacular gardens and pool. All are well-tended and constantly inviting.
Internet is only available in the lobby and games room, making it necessary to check email in these public areas, rather than in one's room! Breakfast in A Vila restaurant was a pleasant morning outing, but dinner in Adega was less memorable! Lovely meal, but waiters were less than pleasant and certainly NOT attentive. Service was very slow as we were waiting to sign our bill and leave, but other tables seemed to get quicker response. We were not rude and wondered why some tables were treated better than others!

Room Tip: Pestana Miramar Village is not the Aparthotel, so make sure to know which type of room you are choos...

This was our third visit to the Pestana Village. We stayed in an apartment on a timeshare exchange, which was a large one bedroomed unit. The unit is large spacious and well furtnished with everything you could want in place. The beds are a bit hard for me but that is a personal view. We over looked the pool area, and unfortunately did not get a lot of sun on our balcony only for about three hours in the mornings, but of course in the summer that could be an advantage.
The village was built in about 1996, and some bits of the apartments are showing there age, i.e. our fridge door required a good push shut each time as the catch was not good. and there is some wear on the paintwork. Also as with all things the decor appears dated, but is still in good condition and serviceable. The linen was changed so regularly it was super, a really bonus, and there was a maid service every day, although some days it was purely to make beds and change towels. You are provided with pool towels which is a bonus, and saves weight in luggage.
In the main the apartment was clean but the dusting would not pass muster on "Four in a Bed"
and could do with attention, but this is a little moan. The other moan is the size of the TV it is a modern TV with excellent choice of channels in lots of languages, but very small for the room.
The staff are friendly and helpful, the whole area is clean and lovely as it is not a concrete box.
The Gardens well they are a real joy and one of the reasons I chose the Village, they are the sort of gardens that you would have to pay to visit in the UK, and the gardeners do an exceelent job. There must be hundreds of photos all around the world taken by visitors to the Village, if the number of cameras I saw in action are anything to go buy.
The pool is surposed to be heated, but better to say it has just had the chill taken off and certainly does not feel warm in February, however the indoor pool is good, as are the hot tubs.
The whole ambiance of the place is wonderful, and the drinks evening for owners and exchangees is a lovely idea, and really gets people mixing.
However I do have a couple of grips - first when we visited as a partner resort exchangee in September 2011 we were charged nothing, this time it was 50 eurors per week for utility fees. In September 2011 it was my husbands birthday and he received a complimentary bottle of cava from the hotel, this time it was my birthday and there was nothing!!!! Ok times are hard and no doubt they have to find ways of cutting costs, however on the Sunday night of our stay, the guests were not allowed to use the winter garden or restuarant and directed to the adjoining Miramar hotel, as the Pestana Managers (top brass I think) from around the world were having a big knees up, and the whole place was decorated with the most wonderful floral arrangements, entertainment of a high calabre and a nice looking buffet, this does not seem to be cost cutting, I would have not felt quite so upset if this had been for the wonderful hard working staff, who are the ones who work so hard to keep everybody returning. Small grips - holiday overall was wonderful, use Happy Tours for any trips, there prices are good, and so is the quality. I will review some of the restuarants under the seperate names, ate some wonderful meals. If you drink beer do go to the Beerhouse on the harbour (tented place opposite Marina shopping) for a wonderful beer made on site.
