We went with another couple, and thought on arrival how lovely it looked. We liked the rooms, they were clean although learnt not to leave anything open i.e. food (even in the cupboards) and to wash up straight away as little black bugs appeared from nowhere. The towels were a little tired looking and without the quality feel we would have hoped for. Our balcony overlooked the front of the hotel which was a lovely view BUT there is a dog that lives next door which can start barking/howling as early as 6.30am. We found there was a real mix of staff some couldn't do enough and others were not interested. The breakfasts were fabulous. It was not overly clear upon arrival of the layout and maybe a map of the hotel would be helpful as one of the sister hotels is next door. We had trouble getting home and were messed around by the travel company, the hotel were aware and the offer of a drink on the house (tea or coffee) would have been greatly appreciated. We did get an invite for a pre-dinner drink one night, to enable them to invite us to listen to the hotels "Options" package - it is not the 90 minutes they said. However during the presentation we learnt a lot about the hotel and it would be a great idea to have the history in each hotel up so people can read about the Pestana Family. On the whole lovely holiday although drinks and food are not cheap. The indoor swimming pool was freezing although when asked the hotel staff did turn the heat up for us as it was too cold to swim in for the first part of the week.

We have stayed at this Hotel many times before and intend to return next year. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The pools are excellent. The Hotels and the Gardens are well integrated to give a good ambience. The rooms are spacious and clean. The Fountain Bar is an excellent location for an evening drink. We went to two of the Hotel restaurants Luigis and Adega and highly recommend them. The Hotel is well situated at the start of Estrada Monumental.

AC would be nice in the rooms in the village on a humid evening in the height of summer.

Stayed for 1 week with family, the hotel is good although the rooms are a bit dated and old fashioned (but in good conditions).
Should have AC in the rooms, it has only a fan in the ceiling which is good but not enough.
The service is ok, however they don't clean the mini-kitchen (only after complaining...).

Just returned from a 6 day break in Funchal.We chose the Pestana Gardens after staying nearby last year and were not dissappointed by the hotel.Set in a kind of tropical garden with hundreds of different plants/bushes trees etc,very well kept grounds The staff were generally helpful. I thought the cost of food was too much for the somewhat bland food.Breakfast the same every morning and dinner little better.Obviously this reflected in the restaurant in the evening with very few diners.Rooms were quite large really advertised as studios/kitchenettes but in actual fact had only a fridge.2 rings one saucepan and little else.A microwave would have been ideal
