“Another excellent say at the Pestana Miramar/Village complex.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

We have often stayed at the Miramar but this time (late March 2012) we were given an excellent room in the Village. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
The staff are friendly and most helpful. Breakfast is good with plenty of choice. The Fountain Bar is a very pleasant place to have an evening drink. Our room was very spacious with a long balcony that afforded us a sea and mountain view. The room was well maintained with good facilities. The swimming pools are very good and the gym has adequate facilities. We recommend Luigi's Restaurant which is part of the hotel, for very good Italian food. The hotels are in an excellent location opposite Reids only a short walk from the centre of Funchal. We will continue to visit the Miramar/Village Hotel.

Room Tip: Book at least a superior room for a better view.

We have just returned from 3 weeks at the Pestana Village having previously stayed at the Pestana Promenade and the Porto Mare.Perhaps it was because the hotel was full(Approx 80% German with the rest French,Scandinavian,Portuguese and British) but we didn't enjoy our time as much as we had at the two previously named hotels. The food was the standard breakfast buffet with the dining area seating probably 300 people but arriving between 8.30am and 9.15am required a little searching for a vacant table. In fact, one morning I counted 16 people waiting at the reception to be seated. The resulting area around the buffet could be a little like a school canteen with a queue for most things.Housekeeping was acceptable but we probably had the balcony cleaned only 3 or 4 times during our stay and on the fourth day after our arrival my wife had to tell reception our sheets had not been changed.A previous writer has written about the high prices in the bar and restaurant and we would agree.Drink prices are more than 50% higher than local bars even during happy hour.We did not try the restaurants as food seemed high priced even compared to the Porto Mare and the Porto Santa Maria where we did eat 4 or 5 times. The gardens were attractive with plenty of sunbeds. However,we did watch one German couple put their towel on two sunbeds in the sun, then put another towel on two sunbeds in the shade and then walk out of the hotel in the direction of Funchal !!
All in all acceptable for the price we paid but we would not go back

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea, ours was 221,also get the traffic noise and the barking dog !

A beautiful little hotel/resort. The apartment was spacious (we were 5 adults) with all the basic things we needed in the kitchen. Close to town (quick hop on the bus or a 20 minute relaxed walk). The is a Spar a few minutes down the road where you can get your everyday items instead of going into town to shop. Swimming pool setting beautiful especially at night with the lights and the live entertainment poolside. The Pestana Miramar Hotel is joint to this hotel so you can make use of both hotels facilities which gives you more option for dinner as you are not limited to one restaurant. The is also wifi available to guests in the business room for anyone who cannot get away from emails and technology.
The cleaning staff were very friendly and office staff always ready to assist. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and will definately book it for my next trip back to the island.

Pestana Village is 100% recommended. I have to start with these words, because I truly mean it. First of all I want to give as many stars as possible to the lovely service on this hotel. They are SO friendly, everyone, starting from the person welcoming you to the breakfast, to the cleaning lady knocking on your door after it, to the receptionist wishing you goodnight after a night out. I just loved the atmosphere in this hotel, I think the best way to describe it is that every return to the hotel felt like coming home.

I have only one negative thing to say about this hotel, and that is the lack of WiFi in the rooms. I know most of the persons staying there will be completely satisfied with the public area WiFi (3€ for one hour or 28€ for one week if you have your own laptop with you – otherwise they have a computer you can loan).

Breakfast: Stars. Plenty of stars. Freshly baked bread that I usually don’t eat, but there I couldn’t resist it because it was heavenly. Good coffee, egg, bacon, cocoa yoghurt, a delicious selection of fruits, and then a breakfast God standing there making freshly baked pancakes for you. There was everything you need/want and more than you could ever eat!

Location: I liked the location a lot. It was situated in a quiet garden and there were no disturbing noises from the streets or nearby buildings. Outside the gate you have bus stops taking you to the centre of Funchal, shopping or even as far as Porto Moniz (takes around 3 hours there with a local bus). The green line runs pretty much every 15 minutes – bus card recommended, you get them from magazine shops for 0,50€ and can load as many trips as you want on them (cost per trip around 1€ per adult). Walk a few minutes and you have a grocery store, magazine shop, ATM and several nice restaurants. Forum shopping mall is a 5 minute bus ride away (green line) and nearby you can take bus number 8 to Santa Quiteria if you want to go to the Madeira Shopping mall. I was really surprised now when I googled the distance to Funchal centre, because it is around 3 kilometres (3,5 to old town). I can assure you it didn’t feel like this much, I walked there and back almost daily, a few times even with high heels. No problem at all. Safe at nights, also for a woman walking alone. Perhaps the small streets in the old town are a little sketchy in the evenings if you walk alone.

+ Lovely service, friendly people
+ Amazing breakfast
+ Good location, feels close to everything and easy to move around
+ Perfect if you want to relax – didn’t seem to be a “hundreds of screaming kids” type of hotel
+ Gym, sauna, outdoor and indoor pool, jacuzzi… all free to use of course

- No WiFi in the rooms, in the public areas you need to pay for it

We have stayed at the Pestana MiraMar previously and booked for the Pestana Village this time for a short break of a week. The Village is set in the most beautiful gardens and the apartments are a good size, ( we had a one bedroom/one bathroom one ). The staff are extrememly helpful and were able to deal with all of our queries quickly and efficiently. The only downside for us was that the temperatures have been low (16/18 degrees) and our apartment was very cold. They did provide a heater but the electricity supply has a 1kw limit so the heater was inadequate. If we had been warmer this place would have deserved 5 stars. The partial kitchen is also very basic and we were self catering. It has a two ring hob and a microwave but no oven or grill although there is a toaster. The rooms were very clean and the maid service excellent with the beds being made everyday. Madeira is a great place to stay, the flowers are gorgeous and we found the prices reasonable for most things. Do use the local buses as they're efficient and cheap. For example take the cable car to or from Monte and use the bus the other way as it's quite an experience. A great holiday and we will return to Pestana MiraMar/Village again.

Room Tip: Choose an upper apartment as the lower ones do not seem to get much sun!

We decided to go to Madeira, less than a month before the stay there. I had heard about the island many times, and said to my husband... Madeira is plave to visit when we are retired.
But why wait ....?
I chose Pestana Village because of the garden. Another reason was the possibilty to have half pension only for days.A third reason was the location, close to the center of the town.
I made a very good choice.
The garden was like a taste of paradise, with all it flowers, trees and plants.
The room had what we needed, a big bed for a good sleep, English spoken tv channals, a big bathroom with a warm shower and a balcony with sun in the afternoon.
The breakfast buffé gave us a choice to have English, Continantal or Fruit -breakfast ... or all of it.
Even the buffé in the evenings was good, but we were glad that we hadn´t paid for more than four days - you might get tired of having a buffé every day.
Our visit ( 8 - 15 Febr) was our first visit to Madeira. We´ll come back next year again... and we will choose Pestana Village ... because of the garden, the room and the location.

Stayed here for 3 weeks in January on a B &B basis. On arrival given a voucher for drinks at the pool bar as room not ready. When given the key for room were told we had been upgraded and found that from our 2nd floor balcony(sun all day)had views over looking the sea. Breakfasts had amazing choices-hot food, meats & cheese, fresh fruit salad, homemade bread and crepes cooked to order - superb. The staff were always very helpful and Micaela's tour of the hotel complex and gardens was really great.
