“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

Had a great experience - you get eat you pay for - went with First Choice at a reasonable price and the holiday matched our expecatations.
Buffet breakfast was plentiful and the champagne everyday was a nice touch. Spa was great and empty. Staff were very helpful. Excellent position both to lido and old town. Best place to eat in the evening is Mozarts in old town

Just spent a week at the Pestana Casino Park - hotel is very clean and facilities are very good (especially the infinity pool!). Staff in hotel were very friendly although English was not widely spoken it didn't pose too much of a problem! Stunning location overlooking the harbour in Funchal (highlight of the day was sipping a cocktail or two at the dockside bar/restaurant watching the cruise ships come and go!). The breakfast buffet was very good however we only ate in the hotel one evening which was ok but wouldn't have wanted to eat in hotel every night as food was ok but not really five star in my opinion. On the plus side there are several very nice restaurants within walking distance and it's close proximity to Funchal means you can also walk into town where there are lots of shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. Maderira is a stunning island excellent for walking or "lavadas" as they are called locally. There are different levels of lavada walks ranging from easy to challenging so suitable for most people! I would definitely recommend the west coast tour - beautiful mountain and coastal scenery and also the cable car ride up to Monte from centre of Funchal (again stunning views and great photo opportunities!). Another must do when you get to Monte is the toboggan ride back down the hill - something VERY unusual and different to say the least! The flora and fauna of Madeira are also stunning especially the birds of paradise which grow in abundance on the island. Would definitely return to Madeira and Pestana Casino Park again.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms have good views of mountains and Funchal but some traffic noise when balcony door...

Had a lovely honeymoon here, champagne on arrival which was a nice touch, can't fault the rooms or staff, but; when I booked for our honeymoon I thought, as it was a five star, and we were booked in half board that the food would ave been better, especially with the Pestana name. The food was ok but not five star. To be truthful we have had better in an all inclusive in Mallorca. In summary though, great, but if we went again, would book in for b&b only. There are some good restaurants locally. There is wifi in the communal area, but really expensive.

Having read some reviews about the food, we were pleasantly surprised by what we received. The food was, on the whole of a good quality, well cooked, well presented and varied. The staff in the hotel were very friendly, especially the restaurant staff who couldn't do enough to help. The room was fine and the hotel well appointed and in an excellent location over the port, where one could watch the cruise ships. The only real disappointment came when some friends accepted the hotel's offer to visit a sister development, for the promise of 50 Euros. When they realised what they were attending, they asked to leave, but the lady ended up in tears as the "Salesperson" demanded the 50 Euros back, in a very threatening way. Overall though, a very good holiday on a beautiful island.

The casino Park Hotel is perfectly located for a stroll into Funchal yet feels well away from any bustle. Our spacious room was east facing so caught the morning sun. That side of the hotel is definitely the best side to choose. We had a side sea view that also offered great views of the mountains to the north and at night the twinkiling lights of the whole area above Funchal was lovely to see. From our balcony we could look on as the cruise ships came in to dock. We would have appreciated tea and coffee making facilities in the room but this was not on offer The buffet style breakfasts were a delight. The food was delicious and offered a variet of food choices that really set us up for the day. Dinner was also buffet style and though a buffet is not our preferred way to eat dinner the food and the staff were great. Although local tap water is safe to drink we were told we could not have that with our meal. The provison of coffee after dinner would have been a normal expectaion but in the Casino Park this had to be purchased which seemed surprising in a hotel of this calibre. The spa area was a real delight with great facilites offering access to pool, jaccuzi, sauna and steam room. The whole area felt very relaxed and comfortable. The outdoor pool was rather too chilly for us but the area surrounding the pool was perfect for relaxing in the sunshine.. This was our third stay in a Pestana Hotel but our first in the Casino Park. It felt less homely than the Pestano Carlton in terms of it's overall atmosphere and service. However it was sleek, spacious, modern, beautifully designed and the staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful.
We enjoyed our stay very much indeed.

Room Tip: Ask for an east facing room with an ocean view as this also gives a view of the gardens and the moun...

very dissapointed, i was expecting a five star hotel and got a 3/4 star hotel, the hotel has good points like the pool area and the indoor/spa area, the decor is nice but dated, the rest is a let down, food is not great and would advise you to eat out as there are excellent eating places all over, the staff are very helpful and efficient and thats about it, dont go unless you get a very cheap deal.

Room Tip: sea view is best, but not essential

Stayed here for one week with my husband on 26th September and we were half board as we got a free upgrade to this with Travel Zoo. It was our first trip to Madeira and I have to say it was fantastic! Madeira is very picturesque, relaxing, safe and clean. The hotel was in a brill location as only a 10 minute walk down hill into the main city centre. Our room had a lovey view over the gardens also. We were initially worried about the food having read some reviews however we thought there was ample choice at breakfast and for the evening meals! Usually we go self catering when on holiday as we like trying various restaurants but it looked like price wise the restaurants were quite expensive anyway! On the downside the hotel bar prices were a total rip off to the point we ate our meals without a drink. They wouldn't even let you have tap water either! There was also no entertainment in the Hotel so we ended up going to a few bars at night. Best bars are No 2 bar opposite Pestana Carlton which is 10 mins walk and Hole in One although that is a much further walk - these bars are opposite direction to city in the Lido district which is left out the Hotel. We also went to the Casino show with meal which we got free with Travel zoo. This was ok but the best bit was the nightclub downstairs in the Casino which had fab music and great atmosphere! However if you want to gamble in the casino it is a minimum 5 euros bet. Also it is very smokey as cigarettes are not banned in the gambling area of the casino. The hotel spa facilities were excellent which we used several times also used the gym but not air conditioned so bit too hot. Madeira is criticised for being aimed at Senior citizens which whilst we felt quite young amongst them - was not a problem for us as we would rather that than screaming kids and families. We would definitely like to come back to Madeira as it had everything we wanted and the holiday was just too short - we wished we had stayed for 10 nights.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view.
