“A Welcoming Return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We stayed twice at this very small (46 rooms) but perfect five star hotel last year for a total of six weeks and it was so nice to return for three weeks this June. Guests here are genuinely treated as such, and our welcome upon arrival was truly exceptional. This beautifully designed modern hotel building has been cleverly set into the slope of the Quinta in such a way that it appears to become absorbed into the park like landscape. The grounds are really quite lovely and are constantly maintained by a team of ten gardeners. The Rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished, and the standard rooms all have individual terraces which open on to the lawns of the hotel, so ones sunbeds can be pushed out from the terrace to catch the sun all day. There is an excellent spa and gym, a charming swimming pool, and a library. Food is available all day in either the garden terrace for breakfast and lunch, the deck bar, which offers wonderful views of the mountains and sea, for lunch, afternoon tea and evening cocktails, and the magnificent Casa da Quinta restaurant providing al fresco or indoor dining of the very finest quality for supper. There is also an excellent room service for private dining on ones terrace

The staff are amazingly attentive and offer service of the very highest standard.

Unsurprisingly then, this beautiful small luxury hotel tends to run at full occupancy, so forward booking is recommended. The stay experience can be likened to being a guest in an English country house.

Room Tip: Standard rooms come with their own terrace opening directly on to beautiful gardens.

My wife and I were fortunate to enjoy a week here in January and thoroughly enjoyed this garden oasis. The hotel is expansive and modern set amongst beautiful gardens. Breakfast is a short walk through the garden to the restaurant and the quality is very good. Staff are polite and helpful. Rooms are very clean, quiet and with an attached deck leading to the gardens. The hotel is on a hill overlooking Funchal which is a nice walk away. YES - TRY IT.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

Booked this hotel on recommendation of a friend who had stayed several times before and raved about it; he wasn't wrong! Excellent service, food, gardens and ambience.Staff always friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The outstanding breakfast choice was always a great start to the day and their excellent restaurant was a good way to finish it. Will certainly return.

A little bit worried because of the city centre and noisy roads we arrived at the hotel. What a delight full heaven. Small hotel with warm staff, great rooms with view off the great garden. Little disappointed about the temperature of the pool water (they say heated, they tell you 25 degrees but they measure 22-23). Just a few degrees hotter it would be of better use also in the spring months. Architecure and interior design gave a Zen feeling. Breakfast fresh products, good choices and they even opened earlyer so we could eat before flying early.
We ate on the premises sometimes lunch or easterdiner. Nearby you find also nice local restaurants. We can fully recommend this hotel for annybody.

Room Tip: if you dont like steps choose the ground floor (you have your own sunchairs). But for the view take...

Immaculate hotel and gardens. Lovely pool area. Friendly, efficient staff. Absolutely super. We have always booked individually, so are nit tied to the hotel restaurant.. Often eat lunch there and obviously breakfast, which is excellent. Lovely library.

Room Tip: Have stayed in both ordinary and superior rooms - perfectly happy with the "ordinary".

Great hotel for relaxing does what it says on the box you won't be disappointed. Only issue we had was we were sold a dinner package for 5 days by Thomson's after initially booking just bed and breakfast. It was every bit as cheap to purchase on the day so don't book in advance.

We stayed here for a week in February. The weather was very mixed but Madeira was ideally suited for a winter break away from the usual touristy destination.

The hotel and every member of its staff were excellent. Their commitment to customer service could not be faulted. Rooms were spotlessly clean. The gardens were so beautiful even in February , indeed we preferred the hotel grounds to the Funchal Botanic gardens

The hotel is about a mile outside the city centre which is walkable but it is a steep hill. There are plenty of buses and taxis available. Also some good restaurants within walking distance.
