“Great ambience, superb service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

From the moment we arrived, every member of staff that we encountered did everything they could to make our visit memorable. From the arrival of the porters as we drew up, through the excellent restaurants, ornate gardens and superb information, this trip was truly memorable.

We were taken to our room on check-in and given a tour and instruction on usage. Whenever we asked for information about the local area or culture at Reception, we were provided with sufficient answers to our questions, without exception. It was a pleasure to deal with the staff. At all times they presented a happy persona and helped as they could - ordering taxi's giving directions and providing service.

The breakfast was substantial and the service in the restaurants left nothing to be desired. The choice was excellent including cereal, cheese and meat, various fruits, toasts, yoghurts, omelettes, bacon and eggs - the list goes on and on.

The gardens are beautifully tendered and were a pleasure to walk around. Also, for us, the hotel was situated far enough from the town to be quiet yet near enough to be a good walk.

We went there for Christmas 2012 and the 2013 New Year Year fireworks. We have never returned to a holiday destination in the past - we plan to make an exception for Madeira and Quinta Da Casa Branca and return next New Year.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are significantly larger and more comfortable. We will choose one of these next time.

We have used this wonderful hotel eight times in the last ten years. For us, it is truly relaxing and so peaceful with super accomodation, great amenities, lovely surroundings and an exceptional staff. And ,yes, we will return this year(2013).

Room Tip: The rooms (all ground floor) with their own patio areas are recommended. There are more luxurious ro...

This was our first visit to Madeira and we couldn't have been luckier with our choice of hotel. The quiet, beautiful grounds, excellent rooms and wonderful staff ensured a very good holiday. We went to the restaurant for two dinners and the meals were the best we had on the island (we did try several that featured in the top 20 and none measured up to the hotel restaurant....although it is quite expensive).

No problems parking, plenty of spaces. We will probably return at some stage, plenty to do and see here.

We've just returned from spending Christmas and New Year on Madeira and have had a brilliant time, thanks mainly to the high quality of the Quinta da Casa Branca.
This delightfuly small hotel provides a luxurious, peaceful haven within easy walking distance of Funchal centre, but is secluded in beautiful, well managed gardens and therefore feels away from it all.
The level of service is outstanding and the attention to detail means that you can instantly relax.
We had picked up from previous comments on TripAdvisor that 'standard rooms' did not have tea and coffee making facilities, so we came prepared. However, lovely touches such as a complimentary bottle of champagne delivered on ice to our room on my husband's special birthday and a bottle of Madeira and a cake on Christmas Eve made our holiday feel that bit more special.
We booked B & B to enable us to enjoy a variety of restaurants, but the Gala dinners on Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve in the restaurant were wonderful. The second of these started with cocktails and canapes in the open air deck bar and the dinner itself was six courses - a very memorable meal indeed. On the recommendation of a member of staff we saw the wonderful firework display from a viewpoint on the hill above the hotel - a stunning experience indeed.
Buffet breakfasts included a huge range of items, with additional hot dishes such as omelettes, eggs and porridge being available freshly prepared to order.
The reception staff were very helpful and friendly.
Overall this is a fabulous hotel and we recommend it highly.

Unless you want high rise modern monster that is... This is a beautiful hotel, architecturally designed in slate and glass externally with wood and marble dominating the interior. The original wing built into the hillsider is only just visible from eth internal road which accesses the spa and superior rooms from the rear, yet each room has private terrace with sunbeds cordoned off from next door by partitions and carefully planted hedges to improve privacy. Higher numbered rooms are however overlooked by anyone with a balcony in the superior wing.

We had a superior room, easy ramp access for wheelchair and plenty of adjacent car parking. I didn't see a standard room properly, but ours was about 30 feet by 12, with the marbled bathroom taking about 12 * 9. Room was divided by 4 wardrobes with almost walk in style, and rear of wardrobes formed head board and subtle above bed lighting with alcove for CD player. Side of divider hid mini bar discreetly. Remainder of room had space for 6 foot dressing table, 2 seater sofa, soft chair, hard chair, large centrl coffee table, small side table for kettle et al (hand made El Canaco biscuits to die for!) and still room to wander. Only slight draw back for me bed was not 6 feet, but was delightfully comfortable and me a poor sleeper actually slept. Balcony was delightful - decked, with 2 wooden reclining chairs and table, and large enuf that you could position at rear of balcony enjoy scenery and warmth and not be overlooked from terraces. Robes, DVD player, classy art, small TV which suited room completed the picture.

Breakfast served in or out in separate building a distance from the superior rooms - you could either walk thru hotel or down road. For wheelchair easiest was to use 2 ramps at superior end of hotel to ground floor and walk thru corridor - this avoided any flights of steps. All that had to be negotiated then was a slight downhill crazy paving path with about 6 odd steps - I managed quite easily if careful with walking stick - wheelchair wouldn't make it.

Restaurant accessible by chair with ingenuity!! Go down internal road to car exit, turn left and use public entrance few yards down street - simples!!

Immaculately clean, really friendly staff, even the gardeners would raise their grass hats and smile. I'd look no further for our next Madeira stay!

Tip - if hiring car, get sat nav - impossible to find without!! Funchal strees are not for the faint hearted!

We have just returned from this trip to Madeira where we spent a week at Xmas.
the Hotel is quite outstanding and is on a Grand Design scale.
The staff were excellent and very helpful. We had a room on the ground floor where we could walk straight into the beautiful and well maintained gardens.
We also had our own sun loungers which were very comfortable and private.
We had a Gala Dinner on Xmas Eve and it was excellent.
We also used the Restaurant 3 times with Flexi Dine. The food was very nice.
Breakfast was superb with eggs cooked to order if required.
All in all we had a very nice wek and the weather was abou 24 degrees.
