“Stylish retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We spent a week at the Quinta. Lovely hotel with lush gardens just above the hotel zone.
Superior rooms are in the somewhat newer wing and bigger. The Quinta restaurant is a lot better then the reviews suggest and really worthwhile. All in all very much recommended, the only drawback perhaps being the limited parking facilities.

Room Tip: Superior rooms in the newer wing come in ground floor and first floor. Ground level rooms have terra...

“Lovely hotel- but beware half-board basis”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

The grounds and spa are a pleasure to spend time in. Location is within easy access to all local attractions with frequent bus service at the bottom of the hill if needed. Breakfast on the terrace was a treat with friendly , attentive waiters/waitresses and evening meals were lovely. However-we were very disappointed with the half board – evening meal choices are very limited plus supplements are payable for some choices .Furthermore- you can purchase an evening meal in the restaurant for much less if purchased on the day rather than pre-booking on half board basis .

“A hotel to return to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who made our stay very comfortable in the magical surroundings of this beautiful property. Breakfast buffet absolutely fantastic and the restaurant excellent also. Standard room more than adequate, very good gym and steam room/sauna etc. All in all, top marks!

Room Tip: Half way down the corridor to avoid the possibility of any noise from the reception/bar area above b...

“Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Wonderful gardens, great staff, excellent food and facilities made this a very good short break and fully justifies the many positive reviews. We stayed in a standard room on a b and b basis and there are lots of good restaurants with high trip advisor ratings within 10 mins walking distance. We ate in twice because of convenience and the quality of the dining experience. The hotel provided a complimentary bottle of very good sparkling wine on arrival for wife's birthday. Although on a busy road we had no traffic noise or incessant dog barking which has been a feature of other hotels in the centre of Funchal. There is a good library in house and a sauna/steamroom/jacuzzi. We didnt use the outdoor pool although heated but did sit around its sheltered perimeter. The staff were very attentive and helpful with restaurant bookings etc. We had a room which had the sun till mid afternoon and also had loungers on our terrace . There is a very civilised afternoon tea at reasonable cost and the breakfasts have a good variety to set you up for the day ahead. The flowers and trees in the grounds are well tended and we spent some hours in the sun just relaxing on the hammock which has great views of the estate.

Room Tip: go for a standard room in the 120s; equidistant to reception and spa, further from road, more sun..

“Above Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

Although close to the city centre, the location of this hotel is perfect. It is set within wonderful gardens with lawns, trees / plants and flowers, along with patways between the various buildings.
All the staff were very good, some being exceptional, in terms of service, helpfulness and friendliness. The restaurant was very good, but the reception were also very willing to advise on suitable restaurants around Funchal and surrounding area, and were happy to make reservations for us so we enjoyed a great variety of cuisine, mostly of hight standard.
The Deck bar has a very pleasant seating area overlooking the lights of Funchal. The only downside was that the bar itself was devoid of bottles or optics on display and so lacked atmosphere. As a result, there tended to be just a few people gathering there before and after dinner.
Overall a wondeful holiday and a place we will return to.
