Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who made our stay very comfortable in the magical surroundings of this beautiful property. Breakfast buffet absolutely fantastic and the restaurant excellent also. Standard room more than adequate, very good gym and steam room/sauna etc. All in all, top marks!

Room Tip: Half way down the corridor to avoid the possibility of any noise from the reception/bar area above b...

Wonderful gardens, great staff, excellent food and facilities made this a very good short break and fully justifies the many positive reviews. We stayed in a standard room on a b and b basis and there are lots of good restaurants with high trip advisor ratings within 10 mins walking distance. We ate in twice because of convenience and the quality of the dining experience. The hotel provided a complimentary bottle of very good sparkling wine on arrival for wife's birthday. Although on a busy road we had no traffic noise or incessant dog barking which has been a feature of other hotels in the centre of Funchal. There is a good library in house and a sauna/steamroom/jacuzzi. We didnt use the outdoor pool although heated but did sit around its sheltered perimeter. The staff were very attentive and helpful with restaurant bookings etc. We had a room which had the sun till mid afternoon and also had loungers on our terrace . There is a very civilised afternoon tea at reasonable cost and the breakfasts have a good variety to set you up for the day ahead. The flowers and trees in the grounds are well tended and we spent some hours in the sun just relaxing on the hammock which has great views of the estate.

Room Tip: go for a standard room in the 120s; equidistant to reception and spa, further from road, more sun..

Although close to the city centre, the location of this hotel is perfect. It is set within wonderful gardens with lawns, trees / plants and flowers, along with patways between the various buildings.
All the staff were very good, some being exceptional, in terms of service, helpfulness and friendliness. The restaurant was very good, but the reception were also very willing to advise on suitable restaurants around Funchal and surrounding area, and were happy to make reservations for us so we enjoyed a great variety of cuisine, mostly of hight standard.
The Deck bar has a very pleasant seating area overlooking the lights of Funchal. The only downside was that the bar itself was devoid of bottles or optics on display and so lacked atmosphere. As a result, there tended to be just a few people gathering there before and after dinner.
Overall a wondeful holiday and a place we will return to.

We have just spent a week at this peaceful hotel which is a perfect place for relaxing and just chilling out. The gardens are beautiful and the individual sun terrace as you step out of your room with loungers a perfect place to spend a few hours in the sun. Breakfast is fantastic and all of the Staff extremely helpful and friendly. A wonderful place to stay and we really enjoyed it.

Spent a week at the gorgeous designer Quinta da Casa Branca in late October. Unfortunately the weather was very wet so we could only take advantage of the sunloungers on the lawn for the brief afternoon that we arrived.

The Quinta is an old building which is no longer part of the hotal. The hotel is built in the former grounds in a designer style incorporating a lot of glass (from the entrance the building looks like a swish private house). Chose to go there as the other half is an architect.

The main hallway is very long with rooms all to one side opening out onto the lush gardens (very tempting to try and bowl a ball right to the end of the corridor!)

Rooms very very comfortable with huge beds that could sleep a small crowd!

The health suite was very well equiped with sauna/steam room/jacuzzi and relaxation room with soft music and dim lights... just what the doctor ordered for stress relief.

The lounge of the hotel was beautifully furnished and very quiet with a computer for guests use 24/7.

The only comment that the breakfasts lacked variety from day to day but the food was top notch. Freshly cooked eggs/bacon and omelettes were served to order by the efficient friendly staff. It would have been nice to be able to sample some Madeiran dishes.

All in all a great hotel for relaxation.

Room Tip: Any standard room in the main hotel building has rooms opening onto the lawn with privacy hedges for...

This was the second time we have visited this hotel. As before, the staff were all very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is situated about a 15 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal, but there are also frequent buses into the city centre. The hotel is situated in beautiful gardens, which the gardeners look after every day. There is a swimming pool, although we did find the water rather cold: as it was October we felt it could have been heated to a higher temperature. The breakfast is continental style, with plenty to choose from: you can also order from the hot menu which included poached, boiled or scrambled eggs, porridge and omelettes. We dined in the restaurant on three evenings: the food is very good but we did feel that the menu should be changed occasionally. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would recommend this hotel.

This was the most amazing experience me and my husband could of asked for. We are only early twenties so was worried about the place being too old for us with it being our honeymmon and all. Well it suited us to a T! The room was perfect, with champagne and fresh fruit waiting for us. The breakfast was amazing, but the evening meals were divine. We only got breakfast included in our rate, but still stayed 3 times to eat at the restaurant! Oh, and the cocktails are amazing, especially the margaritas!
The staff were first class, doing anything they can to keep you happy. Always smiling and there to help. In particular loved pedro! ;-)
As for funchal itself, loved the taboggon ride - that was so fun! Loved the burleque casino night and the cute funchal centre, all cobbled streets, hidden bars and restaurants and the streets with the painted doors.
We were here for two weeks, we were worried we wouldnt find enough to do but there certainly is! Mixed with relaxation and quality time together, it was a perfect holiday!
Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: We had a standard double, it was perfect for us as we laid in our private terrace every night, with...
