“Amazing stay! I highly recommend it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

We, had an amazing and welcoming stay at Vidamar. Check in was very pleasant. Thank you nelson! Room was big, clean and comfy. The dine around concept was good. Koi, the sushi bar is our favorite. Resort has everything to have the perfect stay. Also the hotel is near the centre and a very nice shopping mall called forum.

Amazing surprise on my birthday! When we came back from a day at the beach, we found a birthday cake with candle, champaign and a gift voucher.

Thank you team Vidamar for the great service! We will definitely return.

This hotel is large but feels really friendly because the staff are so concerned that you are having a good time,.The hotel is conveniently placed for an easy walk down into Funchal or the bus stops right outside the hotel, We hired a car and had no problems with parking it securely. The rooms and public areas are spacious and immaculately clean: the glass & mirrors give a light atmosphere. We had a large bedroom with all the amenities you could ask for & the balcony overlooked the well kept gardens and the sea, The safe was free and the fridge cost 6E for the stay but included the range of 'goodies' which were in the fridge on arrival & we felt it was good value,
We found the restaurant food to be very good and the restaurant staff were really attentive and friendly, I have food allergies and chef Antonio went above & beyond to ensure that I ate well. Most days we were able to eat on the terrace which was delightful, although we didn't like other guests smoking whilst we were eating.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would love to return.

Room Tip: Most rooms are sea facing but the towers give best views, ask to be on 4th floor upwards to be above...

The staff and the hotel was fantastic . Two things let it down . The noise in reception could be heard clearly in our bedroom at night. There was a Bridge convention and the noise woke me up twice . We were on the 9th floor . Do not book a sea view as all rooms have them.

We were on the dine around package. The Italian and Japanese option were magnificent, the service, environment and staff could not be more helpful. The Buffet was OK but needs some improvement although it was plain and typical it was all edible.. The Spanish restaurant is the worst restaurant / food I have ever been to. It was disgusting.
I do not know how two restaurants can be so good and another so poor?

Two French clients on an opposite table walked out in disgusted. It was so bad.
We also had four bottles of house wine( 1 in each restaurant) . The bottle in the Italian Resturant was 5 euros more Why?

The staff are very helpful and friendly. For Golfers. My wife and I wanted to use the putting green . The hotel had two balls, a 2 iron and a left handed putter. But we did have some fun.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views and are very comfortable I would go for the cheapest. The wifi is good with...

We came here to the Vidamar hotel to chill and relax we needed this holiday. From the time we stepped into the taxi to transfer us to the hotel it has been superb. The position of the hotel is spectacular. The facilities are superb. The service and hospitality is second to none.

Our room was large and spacious with a glorious view over the sea to wake up every morning to the sunshine and the sound of the sea was breathtaking.

Excellent wi-fi occasionally a little erratic late at night otherwise very efficient.

To eat breakfast and dinner outside at this time of year was amazing.

The staff cannot do enough for you nothing is too much trouble. They just appear.

We shall definitely return to this wonderful, wonderful hotel and island.

We wish you all success.

Room Tip: We did not use the spa just the indoor pool. It looked fabulous. We need to save something for our r...

The hotel is large but there is not shortage of staff and all of them are keen to ensure you have a good stay. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious and the ones with a sea view - spectacular. The grounds are kept well tended and in the pool areas there is no shortage of sunbeds. Being very modern, a lot of glass and mirrors have been used in the design of the hotel and the rooms - there must be an army of cleaners on duty as whenever you look the glass is squeaky clean. Not a finger print or smudge in sight!
Dining is good as you have a number of choices of restaurants to visit - whilst the main restaurant is buffet, the food is very fresh and there is a great selection. The Flamingo tapas restaurant food appears to be microwaved and I thought the Mama Mia food a bit dry so a bit disappointing.
We had a great time and would be very happy to extend our stay or come back. A couple of other minor niggles - the hairdryer in the room was slow and awkward; the coffee in the restaurant is dreadful and there was no milk for the tea/coffee in the room - it appears you have to advise housekeeping and they bring it - despite the fact they know you are in the room. Likewise the mini bar.
Finally my biggest gripe - all hotels ask you to think about the planet when asking for fresh towels - we are happy to re-use ours. At the pool area guests are given a fresh towel each day and most possibly use it for 2 - 5 hours to lie on, very few got in the water. There must be a way that they can issue a towel to a guest for use during their holiday with option to change it when necessary and save all the daily washing of towels.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a sea view room

We stayed here for a week on our first visit to Madeira. I was thinking the buffet Great food and friendly staffregular themed meal's would be uninspiring, but have been very pleasantly surprised. The buffet food was top quality. The options to dine elsewhere were very nice, particularly 'Mama Mia' the Italian.
We found the staff particularly friendly and attentive, the door men went out of their way to be helpful (especially Fabio). Our room was very clean, comfortable and spacious.

Room Tip: Room 406 is really nice and private

we have just returned from a lovely week in the Vidamar. excellent hotel, nothing to fault. all the staff were very friendly and helpful. we had a room on the 10th floor so lovely sea views. sea was pretty rough so didn't swim in the sea but pools were a delight. sea water pools without big waves. I would highly recommend both the Vidamar and madeira. What a lovely island. i suppose the only slight fault was that there was only one glass and one pair of slippers in the room all week. Not very serious. Loved the dressing gowns for going fora swim.

Room Tip: As long as you don't mind heights go for a high floor, spectacular sea views from there. 10th wa...
