“Wonderful New Year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Booked a week over New Year to see the fireworks in Funchal . Stayed at this Hotel for the week spanning New Year. The New Year celebration at the hotel offered was pricy, and obviously pushed heavily but of course had stiff competition from the big Fireworks in the harbour (the largest in the world!). The hotel itself was wonderful, the gardens overlooking the sea a nice stroll after breakfast (with bananas tasting like they used to), service excellent, not too fussy and very friendly and helpful.
The bedrooms (we had two adjoining family rooms) were superb, very comfortable and gave a great nights sleep. The spa facilities and pools, indoor and out were excellent. The only slight drawback is the distance to Funchal itself.

Got booked here without knowing anything (work dixit). The hotel is fairly new.

The rooms are great, all ocean view. Clean , spacious and modern.
Breakfast area is huge, had breakfast out in the terrace a couple of times, very good.
The pools are nice and spacious with all the amenities, including a bar.
Personally loved the direct access to the ocean, something that is not always available in Madeira, you can just go to the peer and jump!

The hotel certainly looks impressive, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had breakfast on the garden terrace included, and the choice was amazing - everything from cereal, porridge, fresh fruit, pastries, cold meats, or a 'Full English' was available (champagne too if you wanted it!). The rooms were very comfortable, and all have sea-views and a balcony. As with most sea-front hotels in Funchal, the sea 'platform' was accessed via a lift, where there were plenty of sun-loungers and the two fabulous infinity pools. So any downsides? Well, the hotel is so huge, and the layout a little confusing (e.g. reception is on the fourth floor), that you'll sometimes end up a bit lost trying to get around. Also, the indoor pool looks like an afterthought built into an underground garage. These are minor quibbles though, and I would happily stay here again. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

We selected this without any prior knowledge as it wasn't here on our last Madeira trip. Located within reasonable access to Funchal centre this was an absolutely fantastic choice, from its great look to wow cliff top position over the Ocean, to the modern high class interior (lots of glass, chrome, mirrors and marble) with acres of space in the public areas and the rooms - and the beds! All rooms face the sea but recommend a superior on one of the upper floors. We upgraded on arrival at a discount on published price. The hotel functions calmly and efficiently and room service and waitering is fast - almost amazingly so. Cannot recommend it enough.

Room Tip: Go for the superior for the best views.

Me and my teenage son came to the hotel by a rented car, and got really 5 stars treatment: the staff parked the car and brought the luggage to our room. The room was nice, clean and very comfortable. During the night there was some noise, probably some kind of sprinkler sound (water pump for the watering of the lawns), which kept us awake. We told about the problem in the reception and got another room where the problem was not present.
The breakfast was so plentiful and of huge variety that we couldn't complain of anything! It satisfied our Levada-walk needs with bright colors. :)
The staff advised us in everything we needed (ways out of town, places to eat etc.).
The pool area and possibility to swim in the sea are great!
We got the internet working in our room, though it is supposed to work only in the reception area for those, who don't have the luxurious rooms.
We can't really complain of anything - the hotel is worth it's stars. I recommend!!!

Room Tip: Room 405 had some weird noise during the night - we got an other room from second floor: very good o...

We returned yesterday from our 6th trip to Madeira and our 6th stay at the Vidamar Resort Hotel (previously the CS Madeira). We were last there when the hotel was changing over and we were a little apprehensive going back but although the hotel has changed, the same high standards have been kept and it was even better to see the same familiar friendly faces among the staff.

We cannot praise this hotel enough, the service is excellent, the facilities are well equipped, the food is delicious and the rooms are spacious and maintained on a daily basis. All requests are dealt with in a prompt and friendly manner and nothing is beyond them.

Looking forward to our next trip.

Room Tip: Try and get a room from the 4th floor up for the most amazing views.

We stayed at the Vidamar Resort, Funchal from 14th to 21st June, this is our third stay at this hotel (the previous times it was the CS Madeira Atlantic). Our first stay in June while the Festival of the Atlantic is on with the firework displays .
The setting of this hotel is wonderful with virtually all the rooms having a view out towards the Atlantic. As we had stayed before we were upgraded to a high ocean view room with a gift of water and fruit. It's a nice touch. The hotel is large, airy and of modern minimalist design, it never appears crowded despite the amount of guests.
The ocean view rooms are large with a queen size bed, comfortable chair and settee, free wi-fi and balcony with that amazing panoramic view. In addition for 6 euros you can purchase the contents of the mini-bar which consisted of six drinks and two snacks, good value I think.
This particular stay we were bed and breakfast previously we had been half board. The breakfasts cater for all; fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, cooked and continental style cold meats and cheeses. This time there was an offer of the three course evening meal in the Garden Restaurant with choice of drink and also a free drink in the bar as well for 23 euros. We think the food, which has always been good, was even better this visit. You have the choice to sit inside or out on the terrace overlooking the garden.
The reception staff are very helpful when you have any queries, eg bus services/times, you can buy the bus tickets from reception; or a problem as we had when our tour company did not inform us of our departure time, they phoned them for us.
The swimming pools are great, both infinity salt water pools, the area surrounding these is large with plenty of sun beds and shades, also what gives this hotel the edge is access to the sea from two piers and a floating raft to aim for which is not too far out.
It's an ideal walking distance from the centre of Funchal, about 25mins. It is downhill on the way in but if you don't fancy the walk back pay for a single journey on the bus, 1.90 euros. If you do walk back and need refreshment there is a small bakery which does very good tea and cakes about quarter of a mile from the hotel.
Will definitely stay at Vidamar Resort Funchal again.
