This was fantastic !! The owner was great ,friendly and informative .The meal was excellent.No menu was provided it was what was freash that day.I can't recommend this place highly enough.Please try it .

We only went for lunch on our last day but if we had stayed on in Funchal (next time) , we would have returned. I was initially put off by the limited options, but wow, this was fantastic sushi. I can still taste it. My sushi palate is a little rusty - too many years in middle Europe - but I certainly haven't had any sushi this good since I lived in San Francisco. It is true that the waitress doesn't really speak English but the chef and the other server do (when we went) and are extremely friendly. On a lunch return I would next time just order the sashimi plate. Twice. Yum. As an aside - it was 'filled' (its small) with locals....

They have only option, which is 25€ set menu (3 starters, sashmi, sushi, warm sushi, minimalist dessert) and bargain at the price. Having lived in Japan few years, some of the stuff was bit .. non-Japanese, but still good. Only major downside was that waitress didn't really speak english much, and the chef(?) had to pop in to translate couple of times. Still, if I wanted more Japanese-style food, this is the place I'd go to in Funchal.
