“stands out in the old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Great food, staff and ambiance, in contrast to it´s sister restaurant the Fort.
Although the same menu, it actually was cooked a lot better and presented so. Simon and his partner, plus the young boys work hard to ensure you have a great time. It is gimmicky, but past that you get good food and decent value for what you pay.

“A very popular tourist spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

“Mozart” was recommended to me as a place one must experience in Funchal. I phoned to book a table for one in the same day and was informed that there was only one table available in the conservatory, which could be a bit cooler than inside; fine for me. Getting there, one of those scenes that I dread most: an over enthusiastic clown like welcoming customers. And I have to say, one after the other customers looked enchanted by the camp welcome. I found it a cheap tourist trap device, but it was proved that it was my own prejudices…one customer after the other, who had been there previously seemed to feel special and in love the pantomime; “oh darling!” the catch phrase embalming. Several potential customers were turned away; “the house was completely full,” and that was the end for the adoring customers (all English, there is no British in the wide visiting Madeira).
The food: the sweet promise. Starter, main, dessert, and as much wine one can consume for just 35 Euros…(mind you, this is not cheap by any account) it may sound like a golden deal, but at the end of the day this a glittering tourist trap. My first dish: prawns wrapped in filo pastry that were beautifully presented; the plate looked like a piece of art; shame, no taste, just smoke and mirrors like everything else. The main was steak with pepper and vegies with a personality of boiled kettle water. I had the cheese plate for desert….big mistake! Portuguese cheese is not something beyond soap-wise. But, once again, beautifully presented.
I sum, if you want to feel special and jollily be received by a clown-like and not much regard for the food…this is “the place” for you.

“Restaurante Do Forte, but little cheaper”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

We were recommended to try this restaurant and would agree with the good reviews. However visitors to Funchal should be aware that this restaurant and "The Fort" have essentially the same menu although Restaurante Mozart is slightly cheaper (35 euros instead of 39 euros for 3 courses with wine and coffee included) and consequently, in my view, is better value unless the setting of Restaurante Do Forte is important to you. Setting and price apart, everything in my review of Restaurante Do Forte applies equally to Mozarts.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Good looking food that tasted as good as it looked. The staff was friendly though one of the waiters did pour out some of our wine before it was empty. We we given a new after that, so nothing to complain about.

“A super restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

This is probably the best eating experience I've had. My wife and I ate there twice. (It was recommended to us by a fellow passenger on the flight. (Many thanks Mrs Marshall)) during our 1 week stay in Funchal. The food is great, the staff are soooo friendly particularly the front of house guy, waiters Alex and Vito looked after us royaly. Always go for the "deal" usually around 35 euro including wine. I had an opportunity to meet the chef and his staff and to see the kitchen. How they produce such food from such a small kitchen is remarkable. If you choose this restaurant you will not be disapponted
