“Funny garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The garden is strange, but beautiful. You can admire tropical plants, some statues, waterfall, and the chinese part of the garden.

“Lovely garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

A fabulous garden, so much to see. Take your time walking around so as not to miss anything. The magnificient tiles are amazing, and the pictures tell the story of Portugal and Madeira. Also beautiful views, and a nice cafe!

“Great gardens with more than plants.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Great variety of plants, trees, and water gardens.
Two very large pools of Koi Carp.
Lots of various art works throughout the facilty, plus 3 floors of a musuem, all included.
At the bottom of the garden is a small cafe and wine tasting facilty.
Just along from the gardens at the top is the start of the "basket run" organised chaos but you could easily go one way on the cable car and down on the basket!

“Well worth a trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Supposed to be a Japanese garden but has Chinese elements. Nevertheless worth the trip if you like gardens. Very good on a hot day as there is a bit more shade up here. Lots to see with nice cafe, really need to set aside 1/2 a day to to do it justice Take the cable car here.

“February was just right”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Having been before in September I was not expecting the wonderful flowers available in February, the Rhodadendrums and azalias were in bloom as was the magnolia and the orchids, it was all wonderful to see. Wish our garden looked as good.
The oriental gardens awith bridges and statues are pleasant places to sit and dream. The display of crystals are worth seeing, and the 10 euro entrance fee was reasonable when I consider how much lesser gardens in the UK charge. Only downsides are the cobbles and steps, so wear sensible shoes. The cafe did not offer a big selection of food, and was somewhat pricey, but nice to have a sit down and enjoy the view.
Do visit by bus it is a really exciting ride with all the bends and step hills, and a reasonable price as buses charge one price in and around Funchal.
