“don't miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

If you are at all interested in flora and fauna this is a most extraordinary experience, colours, shapes, variety. Everything was a joy to the eye. There's a cable car entrance on the north side but beware the last cable car in the winter goes at 17.00. All bus services go down to town first and the best taxi rank and bus stop is on the lower east side entrance to the gardens.

“Beautiful gardens”

These are well worth the long trip. Fantastic views from sites as well. There are 2 cafes if you fancy a hot or cold drink.

“Colourful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Getting their was a fantastic experience taking two cable cars one straight up over the top of the city about 20 minutes of ascending with wonderful views walk to next station easy 5min walk if fully able, quite steep pathway with small step way built in then descending part way down across a valley on another cable car to the gardens surprised at the amount of colour even in January but would love to visit in high season spent about three hours there had a light lunch with wonderful views all around a must see attraction

“Good Day Out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

Our second visit to the Jardim Botanico and a little disappointing, though we think that the weather in December may have been the main cause of the poor show.
We were not impressed with the small cages in which the tropical birds were kept, but that aside getting to the gardens via the cable car was an enjoyable way to get there, and another time of the year is a most fulfilling day out.

“Disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Used the cable car to Monte, then across to the gardens. One needs to be a bit like a mountain goat to access the gardens from the cable car. There were no maps of the gardens given with the admission charge, and it was poorly signposted as to what was the best way to tour the gardens, so on a first visit it was very poor. Having been to the Palheiro gardens previously, the Botanical were indeed a disappointment.
