“Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

The Botanical Gardens are full of a wide range of plants and trees, even in January there was plenty to see - I would love to visit in May when the flowers are at their best.

“Beautiful Gardens with a great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

A lovely way to while away a few hours. Even in February the gardens were stunning with lots of flowering plants. The views from here are lovely and it had a great little cafe.

“January colour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

We visited the gardens as part of a day stop-off on a Thomson cruise. You don't need to pay for an organised trip; it is very easy to walk from the harbour to the cable car.

Unfortunately it rained steadily for most of the day, but despite this the botanical gardens were well worth a visit

“A great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

If you visit Funchal be sure not to miss a visit to these wonderful gardens . Set on a steep downward slope , which certainly adds to the slendour , the gardens are simply beautiful . There are ample opportunities to sit and just relax , Cafes with hot and cold drinks , and plenty to eat . As you wander down the slopes the views over Funchal and the harbour are spectacular . Entry to the gardens is 5 euros per person , great value which includes the aviaries of exotic parrots . You can get there from the harbour by cable car , but the cost is 23.75 euros return , expensive . A much better option is to take the local bus that stops , and waits , right outside the gardens , and costs pence.

“Steep walks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Hasn't changed much over the years. No interactive facilities and the main house exhibition is well worn. A must for horticulturalists and a pleasant place for the garden enthusiasts.
