It was nearly packed by 2315hrs, and more people just kept on coming in. People were stood or sat in the isle and stood at the back for the service. They had the most amazing choir, it was worth every minute.
We went to midnight mass at the Catherdral and it was a very moving experienc.
Madeira is a very family place and celebrate Xmas the way it should be celebrated ie what the true meaning of Xmas is.
... But maybe if you know more about the history of the Island and the cathedral, it will be somewhat interesting to you.
This was a lovely Cathedral in the heart of Funchal Old Town. It was easy to walk to and was interesting to visit.
This is the smallest cathedral I have ever visited. Nothing like the ornate cathedrals, even churches of Italy, for example. The ceiling is interesting but very hard to see in the weak lighting. I realise they are probably trying to protect it but other places manage to illuminate at least part of an area. Don't go out of your way to visit but worth going in if you're passing.
