“light lunch delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

we popped in here for a light lunch and were sat close to the outdoor pool, under cover, as it had just rained. Best Nicoise salad in a long time, washed down with a hugely over-priced bottle of wine at 35E which we had enjoyed the previous evening at Blandys for 7E, but Blandys don't have marble columns, huge staff outgoings, view, airs, deep carpets and chandeliers. Would visit again.

On arrival it put me in mind of the finest hotels in Monaco. It has an old world charm from the vintage Rolls outside to the spotless antique décor. The service was attentive but never intrusive, and sitting on the terrace with afternoon tea was one of the highlights of our holiday. Certainly worth a visit if you're in Funchal.

We recently travelled to Funchai for a holiday and as recommended we duly booked for afternoon tea. Firstly the experience of booking can only be described as pretentious condescending and old fashioned - we were given a dress code which was just common sense and good manners! We attended the tea at 4.30 as arranged - we were advised at this point that our table was not ready so have a drink and wait in the bar - 5.20 we were told out table was ready - we sat at the table and it too someone a further 5 minutes to ask us if we would like champagne - the wait continued then were offered tea - we were then asked when we would like our Champagne which I would have taken it that having ordered it we required it at the time. Our tea pot then arrived covered in tea leaves which duly stained the table cloth. The food was absolutely fantastic - tasty and they were happy to replenish if desired. We were then served the scones and to our disgust when we opened the strawberry jam it had already been used and there were crumbs in the jar - they then delivered another strawberry jam with exactly the same problem it had been opened! We did speak to the PR Manager who was extremely apologetic and we did have two teas taken off our bill - however all we actually wanted was to have a wonderful experience which unfortunately this was everything but.

If you want to rest from stressful life this is the right place to do it.
The amazing landscape of this palace is the perfect place to be with your family.
The kids have an excellent kids club, and if you like ti swim apart from the sea you have three pools to choose, one is filled directly with fresh sea water, amazing to be in the pool and being surprised by the waves.
Excellent f&b service all around the hotel.
The island itself is pretty nice and betterthan Canary Islands as it is not massive and overcrowded tourism.
Congratulatiosn to all the team.

I have never taken the time to review a hotel before but I felt like Reid's Palace exceptional accomodation and service deserved a word of praise. Truly spectacular experience with no real complaints.

Enjoyed a 7 night break with my wife, pregnant daughter and son in law and 2 year old grandson.
Excellent service throughout the stay by welcoming staff. Lives up to its 5 star status. Afternoon tea a delight, as was the Ristorante Villa Cipriani attached to the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors having better views

Red's Palace has been welcoming my family since the the first aircraft landed in madeira. The kids club was great and so was the food + the room. (ours lead onto the gardens). i can say that this hotel and the rest of madeira is a very relaxing place where if you have a very hard busy life where nothing stops, well then when you go there everything about life stops and calms down and all you do is happily gain weight without caring about you 'summer body', you sleep and swim your stresses away. i give Reids 4 starts because there isn't much to do apart from sleep and eat (there are tours to do things like diving with wales, tours around the extinct volcanos ect.) but if your an teenager then what you want to do is YOLO your summer holidays.

Room Tip: always try and get a room on the 3rd floor up... the first and second i felt squashed by the rest of...
