We booked to eat here whilst staying elsewhere in Funchal. The summer buffet, served on the pool terrace, was absolutely lovely and could not be faulted. Well worth the money and an occasion we shall remember always. Fireworks over the marina just added to the delight.
If you are in Madeira do go here, you will not be disappointed.
We would love to stay at Reid's if ever we are back in Madeira.

Our friends suggested visiting Reid's because Winston Churchill had been a guest. Once there, you can imagine Churchill with his hat and cigar and brandy snifter on the balcony enjoying the views, the sunsets and the type of service that would seem out of date anyplace else. Elegant but modern touches everywhere balance the sense of tradition nicely. Great food and very good Portuguese wines. No that's not an oxymoron. Net-net, if someone suggests going - do it. and, go to the dinner dance as well as the High Tea.

Room Tip: get one on the south-east side to see the sunrise

The hotel and staff are geared around guests.
Thats it. No more needs to be said.

Its not about how much something costs or the time it will take to be done.
Its all about making sure the people who are lucky enough to chance upon this wonderful place have a great time and feel special.

The people who are involved looking after guests are very good at making you feel special - I did

If you want to experience the romance of an earlier time, to marvel at the quality of your surroundings, to be in an extraordinary position close to the sea and at the same time high on the cliff but most of all feel cosseted in the luxury of one of the world finest hotels, then this is the place for you.

Ok it's not the sort of place you could go two or three times a year unless you are a lottery winner - but sometimes you just have to experience the best, this is it.

Room Tip: The junior suites have the most extraordinary views

The perfect place to celebrate our marriage. Just what we love, hiking during the day, black tie dancing in the evening. Understated elegance with scenery and weather to die for. Funchal is a Throwback to the British Empire with many customs and way of life intact. Plenty to do in the city yet secluded enough to miss out on the noise. The gardens are spectacular, semi tropical with attention to detail. If you are looking for an out of the beaten path experience to call your own, this is the place.

Room Tip: The suites with a sitting room are perfect, get one overlooking the gardens.

It's truly 5-star luxury hotel, but it's also a very traditional 5-star.

The service was very good and almost perfect, swimming area with gorgeous view and relaxing area by the cliffs which are to die for. Breakfast was lavish, did not try their afternoon tea, it does not seem to offer anything special. Hotel offered you 4 selections of pillow, but it doesn't seem to offer the features it say tho, still it's nice to have something different than flat standard pillow. The housekeeping was top notch, every day we come back we feel like home cause they tidy the place so well.

However, it's just that the guests staying there could be quite unfriendly. Some folks seemed to have some sort of entitlement and definitely give looks to you when you don't fit into their "profile"
We are late 20's, definitely would be considered the young crowd. Every morning at breakfast, the guy next to us with his wife give us very bad look, and stared at us in unfriendly. One particular gentlemen in the concierge was quite like this, and show unwillingness to help me (as an Asian) yet was very helpful to my husband (Caucasian) on the exact same issue. But this was very exceptional case, everyone in the hotel was actually very very nice.

What more can you say - The Best High Tea in Madeira. Delicious sandwiches, lovely cakes, multiple choice of teas. Just perfect. Waiters all very smart and guests all dressed up. Simply perfect and a nice view from the 'tea terrace'. Only problem if you arrive too early you are restricted where you can go. But read the English newspapers in the lounge to pass the time. Advance booking required!
