From the outside it looks like a run down traditional Victorian London pub, inside as well really. Called in here briefly after a disappointing, and long awaited, pint of Guinness at the Irish bar over the road. No improvement here I'm afraid (although I went for the local Coral).
Didn't eat as on half board so can't comment on the food, but what struck more than anything was the almost total lack of any atmosphere (and customers).
What also struck me was that if there are any couples (or singles) out there that really know how to run a successful pub then this place could be great. A chance to re-create a traditional Victorian boozer in Funcal, it's nearly there already. No need to go tacky English, you could go for a historical theme.
There is the custom around there; the large Pestana Carlton is just up the road. Anyway just a thought because it’s a real shame to see it as it is now.
