“Nice garden, interesting museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

The entry to the garden is free, so it's worth visiting it. You will find some archaeological remains all the garden. Some very special trees, and many orchids. Unfortunately, the chapel is closed for Restoration. The entry to the museum is not free, but not very expensive. Interesting pieces inside

“Interesting gardens and has coffee room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We didn't go into the museum, just the gardens as pushed for time. The gardens were well worth the visit and a stunning view.

“Art & gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This museum (free on Sundays) has a nice selection of antique furniture, silverware and other artifacts. The gardens are great (incl an orchid section in season) and the views are amazing.

“A real mix of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

If you only have time to visit one historic quinta in Madiera then this is probably one to consider. The architecture of the building itself gives a good idea of how the wealthy Madierans lived but the contents are a real mixture. My favrouites included some of the historic paintings and drawings of Funchal as it was; although there is plenty of high quality English furniture; The gardens seemed a bit bedraggled and in need of attention.

“Interesting Quinta”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Steep climb from the town to get here. There is a garden containing oddments of carved stones from old houses and churches as well as tombstones and window frames. There is also a café in the garden. The chapel was closed when I visited. Most of the rooms in the house are the same containing English and Portuguese furniture, textiles, ceramics, chests from India and China. There were some interesting paintings of how Madeira used to look. Downstairs contained exhibitions of 18th century silver (look for the babies’ rattles) and French porcelain. You need to leave your bag in the free lockers provided.
