“Real character and excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Don't be put off by the location. In fact a side street next to the market says it all. Unpretentious, genuinely friendly, excellent food at sensible prices. Go here and not to one of the places with irritating front of house staff who bother you every time you walk by.

“Nice place, good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

We went to Restauran A Bica after visiting Tourist info in Funchal, and lady who worked there suggested that place with local food. Wi found it very easy, it is close to the Mercado des lavradores, enter in restaurant is downstairs (so, no terace with nice view)...but everything else is very good, the waiters are so polite, symphatic, try to help and explain tipe of food and wine, here we first time eat 'espada' fish, interior is very nice...so, I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner if you want to enjoy in your meal

“Typical and inexpensive with nice food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013 via mobile

Typical inexpensive restaurant with nice food and very nice service.
Suggested by a local taxi driver.
Don't expect gourmet..it's the type of restaurant local workers go to.

“Excellent local food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

In a short trip to Madeira went there twice for dinner. The first time because of the raving reviews on tripadvisor. The second time, because we enjoyed the first time so much. We particularly recommend the Pepper Steak and home made ice-cream. The service was very friendly. It represents good value for money.

“Friendly,wholesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

We dined here and really enjoyed the down to earth atmosphere The owners are lovely and very friendly . The fish was fabulous and portion size plentiful. The food is not haute cuisine so portions are generous, fresh, wholesome and honest. We could not fault anything although it is not candle lit . It is bright but as
Last reviewer said, it is clean, spotless!! We would whole heartedly recommend it . Garlic bread and homemade ice team is outstanding!!
