Cabo Girau has long been famous for the height of it's cliff's, reportedly the highest sea cliffs in Europe and the second highest in the world at 580 metres, which have provided stunning views over the south coast of Madeira and over it's capital, Funchal.
On 31 October 2012 a much improved facility was opened, with improved parking and a new walk on glass viewing platform. There was no charge for this facility when we visited it in Jan 2013, but the way it is arranged suggests that charges will soon be made.
There are so many impressive viewpoints from many of the mountain roads and indeed even from many of the public bus services in Madeira, that it would be hard claim that this is a must see location, but it is nevertheless pretty stunning and certainly an improvement on the old Mirador
