“An excellent stay in The Vine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

We had a very nice week in Madeira, And a hotel with personel that made our holliday a great experience. We loved the breakfast and stay on the roofbar. The Vine will be our next stop when we come back in Madeira.

Our five nights at The Vine could not have been more perfect. From arrival until departure the staff were friendly and efficient. The room was excellent and we were delighted with the care with which it was allocated following a prior request and despite reading of councerns about operating the lighting, we found it not to be a problem. The breakfasts were some of the best we have experienced- we thought we had found the best at another hotel in Madeira on two earlier visits but the Vine was undoubtedly better.

our week in Funchal was a most enjoyable one with nice weather and a hotel giving us the ideal combination of living in the city center and sun bathing. The top terrace of the hotel made this combination possible. The Vine is a design hotel and somtimes it created a feeling that design goes before functionality creating difficulties for the hotel guest but that was totally compensated by the nice and helpful staff. The massive construction work in Funchal after the heavy flooding and landslides in 2010 did not disturb us although it affected the traffic.

Room Tip: Higher floors are recommended

This is our second trip this year to Madeira but our first at the Vine. The hotel is amazing - we loved the rooms - very boutique and contemporary. Breakfast is the best we have experienced and service was excellent. It was my boyfriends birthday and the cleaner had obviously seen his birthday card in the room and we had a fabulous surprise when they delivered a bottle of bubbly and birthday cake to our room! We would definitely recommend and come back again! Keith and Trena. London

We chosed this hotel for our trip to Madeira based on the positive Tripadvisor reviews and were lucky to have done so.
++Centre location near the main city attractions. The hotel is part of a shopping center which offers food-/clothing stores and a farmacy.
++Hotel car parking is available at no cost.
++We found the rooms to be clean, equipped with modern equipment. The room insulation is very good.
+ The rooftop bar offers stunning views of the city of Funchal. It is located next to a (rather tiny) pool.
+ We liked the breakfast buffet (included in the room price) and were delighted with the service personnel.
+/-Given the hotel is in a shopping center, the haccess is rather hidden via an elevator located at the entrance. Hotel access from the parking is availabe but again, rather complicated via internal elevator and doors equipped with a badge system.

Overall a very good hotel - would go back anytime.

Excellence in every way.
Only negative are the bathroom amenities are difficult to use, but nothing that would make my stay there less than excellent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating in every aspect, going out of their way to exceed every request...
Perfect location and outstanding rooms-decor-food-views
Highly recommended and unsterstandibly why they the best hotel in Europe
I WILL be back

This is an unusual hotel. It is built over a shopping centre and is a very boutique style. We were upgraded to a 'mini suite' as we were celebrating our anniversary and it was a good size room with a huge bed and a lovely double bath in the room itself. It is all mood lighting (not always great for putting on makeup!) and sometimes it is style over practicality - for example, the 'waterfall' shower, was lovely, but there's no indoor handle to pull the door closed when you're in it and it leaked like a sieve when you used it. The room could be a little noisy on a Friday and Asturday night, but was great for people watching. Also there is a big supermarket on the lower level of the shopping centre, which is really handy if you want to buy beers/wine that you can stick in your mini bar (first round is complimentary). The buffet breakfasts are good with items such as smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, pancakes etc as well as sparkling wine, which was a nice treat.
You go to this hotel for one thing though - the roof terrace is absolutely amazing! The views over Funchal by day or night are absolutely spectacular.... They have a Happy Hour between 6-8pm, which makes the drinks affordable and it is just a gorgeous place to relax, with very chilled out music and a sparkling clean infinity pool. A few things could be improved - they often ran out of towels and one evening towels had been heaped up on one of the lights (as it was not clearly marked where the used towels should go) which was not a good impression for the guests visiting the Mchelin starred restaurant. Also crockery at breakfast was occasionally a little chipped, which is not befitting a 5 star hotel. However, overall we had a great stay and the hotel is very central, which is great for sightseeing and the Old Town is about 20 mins walk away and is a real treat for an evening meal.

Room Tip: Room 214 was great for people watching, though could be a little noisy.
