“Perfect beach holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

We stayed there 2 nights during one week Portugal trip. We took 4 different rooms (2 doubles and 2 family-rooms) and all of them were very good: clean, spacious, with ocean view. We booked only one room with breakfast and it was the right choice because for 7 EUR per person you can get better breakfast in the bar. Try white Sangria in the hotel restaurant - it`s simply the best! In the hotel is computer for guests with good internet connection (3 EUR half hour, 5 - one hour).
Hotel is very close to Sintra and Cabo da Rocca. Try to visit Azenhas do Mar: very nice village ~ 3-5 km from hotel.
It is one of the best beach hotels, if you have your own car (because other facilities, except some cafes and restaurants, are a little bit too far to walk there). Note that swimming pool is open from 10 a.m till 7 p.m. and only from June till September!

Stayed for 2 nights with family, very friendly staff. Absolutely incredible location, every room has stunning view of the ocean. The huge sea water pool is right on the beach! The rooms are spacious and has balcony overlooking the pool & ocean, the sound of the waves are memorable. Surprised this place is a 3 star, the rooms and bathroom qualifies for a solid European 4 star hotel. Lobby is ok, looks no more than a 3 star, and complimentary breakfast was just okay, but restaurant has great view. Sintra was a beautiful 15 - 20 min drive, we had a lovely time and would definitely return.

If you love the sound of crashing waves and an unobstructed view of the ocean, the Arribas provides an endless show and a poster window.
The rooms have balconies, privacy and all the conveniences that one would expect from a 3 or even 4 star hotel. It is very close to Sintra and all the wonderful sights of the area. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it without any hesitation.

Room Tip: We booked online. All rooms have seaview!

The fantastic views and large rooms make up for the dated interior and lack of power in the shower. Would recommend it for those wanting a beach break.

The hotel was right on the beach not too far from Sintra. The girls at reception were very helpful and took us to our room. All the rooms face the sea, with very spectacular views of the crashing waves and the surfers on them.

Our room was very large, with one of the biggest beds we have ever slept in. It had a large balcony overlooking the pool, beach and the sea.

The decor in the room and bathroom is dated, but everything was clean. The whole of the hotel is dated, and some areas mainly the terrace where the restaurant and bar are located are in need of refurbishing. It all looks rather tired, but the location and the view from our room made up for it.

The hotel has a very large salt water pool, which is also used by the paying public. This again is in need of painting and refurbishing.

We had dinner at the restaurant on the second night we were there, we eat in the terrace, which was very nice, and the service and food was very good and reasonably priced.

The breakfast was also good, with a good selection, but the coffee came from a machine and as is general practice it seems in Portugal, you don't get fresh orange juice, it comes out of a machine and is just water mixed up with orange tasting powder.

All in all, we enjoyed our two day stay, and would not mind going back.

The Arribas Hotel placed in the beach is one of the best locations we can find in the cost.
Pros: Location and sea views, great swming pool (only in the summer).
Cons: Service very simple, average restaurant, to much walls and concrete and no gardens.
We stay (2 adults and 2 children) and we like the easy acess to the beautiful and big beach that we can walk for kilometers. There are also restaurants in the area.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2008

Having booked on a website, we arrived to find two rooms had been reserved rather than the three we booked. However even though the hotel was full, they managed to give us a third room . The rooms are very spacious and all have sea view and balcony. The bathrooms are just about okay. It was all quite clean and the staff were very helpful. The huge pool was empty when we were there as it does not open until 1st June. The breakfast was very average and without much choice, although there was plenty of it. We dined in on our first night and four of our meals were very good. The other two had to go back. The prices for drinks varied wildy from extremely cheap to silly prices for local liquers. As for eating out there is very little choice, but the next resort Praia das Macas has quite a few restaurants and is only five minutes away by car. The purpose of our stay was to visit Sintra and this can be done by bus from outside the hotel. Top tip is to buy a day ticket which costs 9 euros and then you can hop on and off buses all day. Sintra is lovely and the palaces are tremendous, although they all need renovating badly. The only downside we found with the hotel was the night noise and as this was from the roaring sea it was a natural phenomenon. You can see why the resort is a surfers paradise as the waves are huge and spectacular.

  • Liked — The location
  • Disliked — The noise from the surf at night which meant the windows needed to be closed to sleep!
