“Worst hotel in our travel around Portugal”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

This hotel was not worth the price, even with the location close to the old city. The hotel is old, no wi-fi in the rooms, TV set small in the room and no other channels in TV besides the nationals from Portugal . Others had interferences. Breakfast was poor. Decorations terrible. Room small. The toilet in the room showed age with paint removal. Was quite uncomfortable. The refrigerator was noisy and we had to disconnected at night. There are other choices even if they cost a little more to consider for next time.

Room Tip: In the back we could have more quiet. We had a noisy refrigerator that we had to diconnect to be abl...

In a very nice location, this hotel is clearly been under modernization. The rooms are modern with art deco style. The breakfast is quite simple, with no surprise. The room was quiet and comfortable. The hairdryer was not good and the wifi did not work in the room.

After experiencing a real old world hotel for several nights, the Josefa felt like true modern comfort. It is clean, comfortable and well furnished. The breakfast is excellent. The location is ideal for drivers as parking is not a problem - or was not for us in May. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good. The "new wing" is a bit kitchy, the halls being decorated with something akin to disco balls. The traditional rooms in the older wing are more spacious, with equally updated bathrooms, but a warmer, more homey feel. We had no complaints, other than the intense odor of cigarette smoke in the bar, which we felt compelled to avoid. Internet worked in the lobby and sometimes in the rooms.

Very good location, close to the old town main gate, very nice and helpful staff, excellent restaurant, comfortable rooms (but a bit small). Good breakfast . Parking in front, but few places to park. Just nothing to complain.

I had the pleasure of staying for a night at this nice hotel and was quite surprised. Although it is a bit on the old-fashioned side, the pros more than outweight that con. It is extremely comfortable, clean, warm, quiet and the location... simply unbeatable, literally 50 metres from the south entrance of Óbidos.
The staff are exceedingly nice and helpful too, so what more can one want? Perfect spot!

On an incredibly hot October day, I arrived at the tourist office in a taxi due to a train strike and was incredibly lucky, I think, to get my lovely quiet room at the Josefa. I was at the back and had a pretty view across a palm tree towards the castle.
There is often an odd smell in Portugal due to poor drainage; just close the bathroom door. It's not hard. On the plus side, the rooms are cool and spacious and the breakfast is great, with hot egg and sausage options for those who want them. At night, the door between the rooms and the office is closed: I had my first great sleep here.
It's also in a wonderful location; close but not on top of the attractions of gorgeous Obidos.

Located less than a hundred yards from the main gate to the old town, we found this hotel to be pleasant and good value. Breakfast which is included has a little bit of a "institutionnal" feel to it, but was very adequate. Parking can be found, if you are lucky, right at the door: take it, as it may be the only parking spot you will see in Obidos.
