“Yes, it's busy...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

... but you'd expect that. There's so much to see and do, our 2 small children never got bored or impatient. Can't wait for this year to return!

“Good idea, but Obidos is no place for this many people”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

If you want to visit Obidos for Obidos - and you definitely should! - please pick another time. The Christmas Village is a good idea, if you don't mind waiting in multiple lines for hours you may even have fun, but it just takes away from the charm of the village.

“Medieval Christmas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2012

Many lights abound and Christmas tree displays decorated by school children, but overall the setting is a bit off as we all know that in medieval times, no electricity existed, so...
Worth visiting if you have small children and understand Portuguese. There's also a play about Christmas (separate fee) so plan ahead if wanting to attend.

“Wonderful idea, but can't handle the people it draws”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

I love Obidos village, and so was excited for this year's trip to see Vila Natal. On the one hand, it has plenty of fun things to see and do, especially for kids. Ice skating, a frozen slide, Santa's workshop and a visit to the man himself, a labyrinth, etc. But there were SO many people, all we really ended up doing was waiting in line. It was 45 minutes to get a ticket for the main entrance... a 2 hour wait for tickets to the ice bar (we didn't bother)... a half hour waiting to go ice skating (before we gave up, having only moved about one inch in all that time)... and over an hour in the food court waiting in line for hot chocolate (we gave that up, too, realizing it would be another hour int he cold before we got to the front of the line). All in all, we are a pretty easy-going group and were glad we saw it. But honestly, I would recommend either going only on a weekday early in the day, when the least amount of people are there, or simply skipping the Christmas town and visiting lovely Obidos at any other time of the year. It is a charming village all on its own, Santa or not.

“A Fun Day in a Great Little Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2011

We made a quick visit to Obidos, Portugal (an hour's drive from Lisbon) to see the Christmas festival. It was well worth the trip. The town is quaint and interesting. The castle that dominates the community is attractive, with a stunning viaduct, impressive walls and very picturesque buildings. The festival itself was great fun -- low-key, not overly commercial and very kid friendly. The narrow street that leads the festival sight was lined with shops, restaurants and other attractions. The festival attractions include a maze, cart circuit, a very short and slow slide, a tiny ice-rink, games, toy factory, Santa, etc etc. The regional schoolkids are our in mass and they added to the entertainment for the day. This was just a fun time, nothing ritzy or pretentious, but good, down to earth, local fun.
