“Expected more, but quite acceptable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

The hotel was recommended by our friends - we chose it because of the location, the terrace and the style. The hotel is in a quiet street just in the centre, but somehow away from the tourists' beaten paths. The street has several very authentic restaurants and small shops. The old building is beautiful and nicely renovated, however would need a refreshment.
The room itself was very small, again posing the usual problem - how do 2 people walk/stand in the room at the same time and where do they put their suitcases. The shower was big and spacious, but with no place for putting your toiletries.
I was quite disappointed by the terrace - the view is excellent, but the palettes that they use as chairs and tables are quite rotten (they could get some new for free, I suppose) and even worse, the terrace is accessible only till 10 p.m. I would have liked to use it in the evening, for a relaxing glass of wine or a cigarette, unfortunately, for some bizarre reasons it was not possible :). Wi-fi doesn't work in the terrace or in the rooms.
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel.

Room Tip: There is no lift, so again, beware of asking for a higher floor, as you will have to carry your lugg...

On arrival we were guided up tp a room on the 4th floor, a small white cell really with no air conditioning although the temperature outside was 37C. We did ask for a fan, but it was not very effective and we spent some very uncomfortable nights. Location was good, staff were very pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean if small, hot and stuffy. This hotel was the most expensive we used during our stay in Portugal and was by far the poorest.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower floors seem to be the best. Check about air conditioning.

We LOVED the Lavra Guesthouse! Upon our arrival, we were told that we were upgraded to the best room in the hotel (at no extra charge!) due to an overbooking issue. Our room was great, with a private patio overlooking the city. The staff was so friendly, willing to help us with anything we needed, including recommendations to good local vegetarian restaurants. They were also very accommodating with our 8 month old son, who traveled with us. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lisbon!

This was a highlight of my trip in Lisbon. Staying on the top floor, the view over lisbon was breathtaking. We loved this place so much we stayed there again at the end of our trip. Nothing too fancy, but all that you need!

It is the ideal place to live the whole intensity of Lisbone: elegant, cozy, bright, romantic, quiet, placed in the center of the town and with wonderful views. Perfect combination between the sobriety old building completely renovated and the decor of the rooms.

Room Tip: Las habitaciones de las plantas superiores son muy luminosas y con una vista preciosa.

I'm not entirely sure what all the praise about this place is about. Perhaps, I'm missing something. Overall, the staff was helpful upon arrival. They helped me carry my luggage from the lobby up to our room on the 4th floor. Bear in mind, there is no lift in this building meaning that steep climb up to get back to the guestplace is compounded by the additional climb up several flights of stairs after a already tiring day of sightseeing in "hilly Lisbon".

The room itself was very basic. White everywhere. The walls to the bedspread. There is no air-con in these rooms, just a fan. It was rather uncomfortable to attempt to sleep here. That in mind, the room was clean and the view of rooftops and partial river view was a nice bonus. From the reviews on here, it appears there is a terrace but I wasn't aware until I read it on here.
There is free wi-fi in the rooms and it worked decently, albeit a tad slow.

The area does feel very authentic in that several small, shops and restaurants were littered here and there upon the descent/ascent from/to the guesthouse.

For the price that was paid, I am certain there are better options out there.

This B&B is in a wonderful location ... a stroll downhill to central Lisbon, and a furnicular train to get you back up the steep hill after a day of exploring.
The rooms have everything you need, but are fairly basic. This suited us, as we are budget-conscious travellers. The building is charming, and do go to the terrace to enjoy the views of Lisbon, particularly at sunset.
The staff were extremely helpful. I'd left something on the plane, and many phone calls over a few days later, the staff were able to track it down for me. It was above and beyond the call of duty.
Recommended, particularly for families on a budget.

Room Tip: The buffet breakfast are good value for money.
