“Good but not great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, impressive... The waitresses were very nice, always helpful and kind. The food was not so good and too expensive! The main course was nothing special, but the appetizers were great, delicious and so different (really novelle cuisine).
I would recomend this restaurant because of its history, beauty and staff kindness. But only to have some appetizers, wine (excelent menu) and deserts (also delicious).

“Surly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I have never before rated somewhere I did not manage to eat. Being in Lisbon for New Year, I had hoped to eat hear with a friend. We walked in off the street, rather than calling ahead. It was early (by Lisbon standards) and 80% of the tables were empty. Our polite request was met by horrified, rather rude bluster. I can accept, maybe they really did have 80 people turning up in the next half hour, but a little courtesy would have been nice.

“Memorable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

The Restaurant atmosphere is ideal for couples and small parties, it drives you back to "Belle époque" times, romantic and glamourous surrounding. The dining experience real was a must, the 8 course menu taste from Chef Aimé Barroyer, was an outstanding presentation and gave us a unique sense of importance as the only thing we told him was we love good food, with local products. The service went a long and the wines served showed a professional and atent pairing. Definitely a Restaurant to recommend for whom looking for a hospitality and excelent food.

“Portuguese "Nouvelle Cuisine"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Portugal is known for its traditional cuisine, but this place puts a new spin on that, serving creatively crafted dishes in a "nouvelle cuisine" style.

The setting is very traditional: a converted mansion in Portuguese Baroque style set in the "Bairro Alto", lavishly decorated. The menu sets a different tone: very creative and modern.

The dishes are served in innovative ways, sometimes using slabs of stone instead of plates. You immediately realise this is not your father's Portuguese restaurant in Lisbon...

Service is excellent, as it usually is in Portugal: very attentive, pleasant and cheerful, plus quick in delivery.

The wine list is quite extensive, focusing on Portuguese wines as you would expect, which is actually a good thing. You don't go to Lisbon to taste French or Italian wines.

We had a great dinner there in a group of eight people, all thoroughly pleased.

“Opulent restaurant in the heart of Bairro Alto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Taveres Rico is a Michelin-starred restaurant located in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon. As the oldest restaurant in Lisbon, it exudes old world elegance and charm. The service staff were fluent in English and service was attentive but not overly intrusive. We had the 4-course tasting menu at 68 euros and each course was unique both in taste and presentation. The food was light and not too heavy on sauces. Overall, it was a great experience and I would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon.
