“Great food but be wary of smokers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012 via mobile

This was our third visit to the restaurant. As before, the food and service was excellent. The variety and quality of starters brought to the table is always the highlight. The pork and clams were particularly good.

The one negative point was that we were given a table overlooking the courtyard, but this was where people were allowed to smoke. We weren't asked if we wanted a smoking/non-smoking table, so it came as a surprise when the people at the next table lit up. Where we sat was an enclosed space as there was a screen between the courtyard and the table, so the reek was inescapable.

“Nice, but a bit overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

Nice place, out of main streets, could be difficult to find but our taxi driver knew immediately.
The food was very good (but not amazing), personnel a bit cold and their service could be faster.
I think you can have similar or better but less expensive experience in a couple of other places in Lisbon.

“Where the food sings to you.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

From the moment we were greeted on arrival to the time when we were escorted to our taxi to leave, the place surprised and elated us. Service was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The appetizers (served automatically, but included in the check as stated on the menu) were excellent. We lost count of the different servings including scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms, small fresh roasted peppers, lightly smoked salmon, wonderful clams, and little pastry shells with warm goat cheese.
The off the menu feature of the day was a Sole Meuniere. It was the whole fish (head removed) sauteed with the sauce. The fish was cooked just enough to be fully cooked without drying out. It was very easy to bone and eat and I loved it. The sauce was wonderful. I'd go back just for that. My wife had the scallops which were served with a pesto rice. I do a lot of pesto dishes at home but would die to know how they made it with so much basil flavoring. It was "essence of basil." The dinners also came with roasted potatoes, greens, spinach and mashed turnips served family style for the table.
My test for a restaurant is whether food sings to us. This food was practically a full concert. It was not just the best meal of the month, it was probably the best in years, and we eat travel and eat out a lot.
Do not miss this gem.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012 via mobile

We are two couples who have traveled extensively all over the world. Food and wine has always been part of our travel pleasure but not so with this experience. A Travessa is listed as having some of the best food in Lisbon and certainly our meal was delicious but the service was so dismal the wonderful food experience was somewhat spoiled. Our table was all but ignored, the service was slow and unfriendly and at one point two wait staff were obviously having a dispute over who was responsible for our table. We could not get any any sense as to who that was as we were given menus by one waitress, our order taken by another, food delivered by yet another, wine and water by someone else and on it went ! We had a very long wait between our main and our dessert and then sat for 40 minutes waiting for our bill while the staff busily cleared the tables around us. By the time we got our bill the restaurant was empty save for two tables, the table across from us turned our twice during our time there. We'll not return, nor would I suggest going there to others, especially considering all the wonderful restaurants Lisbon has on offer.

“We had a wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012 via mobile

Appetizers just start coming, small tastes of many things, but the small roast clams were the best ever and the oysters were perfect. Good variations on mains, sole, skate, monkfish all excellent. The partridge (perdiz) pie was outstanding as well as the venison. Yes a bit pricey at about 65 euros each with a lot of wine, but still very fair. I loved the atmosphere, which is looking over a private several century old square from ground level. We had excellent service with good english spoken.
