“Worth the tram ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Breathtaking cathedral. Beautiful cloisters. Rather dreary walk to Belem tower but well worth it. Tower is spectacular with fantastic views if you scale the narrow stairs to the top. Lisboa ticket gives admission to both attractions. Monument to navigator well worth the ascent by lift. Nice cafe by marina. Don't miss it.

“Altis Belem Hotel & Spa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

WOW, what a hotel! I thought the Sofitel Grand Legend in Amsterdam was amazing, but this hotel is that plus a work of art. Every detail thought of, little specialty services everywhere. Beautifully appointed and modern. To die for food.

“potential not exploited”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

For a 5 euro fee it costs about a euro every 5 minutes which is steep. Nothing to see downstairs so proceed to the dungeon which was completely empty ! Then up and down a single winding staircase to 4 floor of further emptiness, although the view gets marginally better as you go up and there is some short description tacked to the walls on each floor. Gives you a chance to experience the (un)politeness of the average punter as well. I actually backed up for one mouthy tour guide and his flock only to be completely ignored at the top. You can get stuck for a while in the middle of the tower if traffic on the stairs is heavy. Look from outside but save some cash till someone makes more of an effort.

“Lots to do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

There are so many things to do in the Belem area! There is the Belem Tower, of course, but the explorers monument, war memorial, monastary, Pasteis de Belem bakery, coach museum, contemporary art museam are also there. We actually spent two days in Belem. Don't short change yourself on visiting this area, because you might think you can get by with just a couple hours (and if you want to see much of it you can't).

It is easy to spend the entire day in Belem because it is well served with restaurants, cafes and dessert venues as well as attractions.
