“Beautifull castle and great gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Definetly worth a visit!! A guided tour is provided in english, portuguees, spanish and castellano. The castle is beautifully kept and the drawings of tiles are both historic and amusing. You simply most visit when in Lisbon!

“Azulejos, azulejos....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

The Palacio is located outside the center and therefore could well be overlooked when visiting Lisbon.
Actually the Palacio is a former hunting lodge build in the 17th. century when Lisbon wasn't yet reaching this área. In the 18th century then the hunting lodge was upgraded and extended by na aisle when the family lost its house after the 1755 earthquake in Lisbon and moved to their hunting pavillon.. Still today part of the "new " aisle is habited by the family.
For the people having a car there is ample parking space in front of the Palacio. You can visit only the gardens or the gardens and the Palacio. For the latter the entry price is 6 €.
This price includes a guide. The guide is multilingual (his englsh is even spoken with an english accent!) and his explanation was excellent.

The Palacio s not very large but beautiful decorated with azulejos. The major room depicts lots of war scenery where the Portuguese (with the help of the British) were beating the Spaniards.
From the Palacio rooms and promenades you have a beautiful view of the garden. The garden is very "geometrical layed out. You cannot miss the big water tank with its fantastic wall called the " King's Promenade". Each niche of the wall houses the buste of a former king of Portugal.
Pitty for us there was a wedding planned in the garden the day we visited the Palacio, and the tent blokked half of the view of the Wall. For this reason we only give 4 stars for what would normally be a 5 stars attraction.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Not too far from the station Jardim Zoologico, you'll find a place of sheer delight for your eyes. We've been bewitched by the colours of the place gardens. The walls painted in deep blue will remind you of les jardins majorelles de Marrackech. Gemstones, shells and azulejos have kept all of their splendour. Visit the palace for a nice journey through history.

“Very interesting guided tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

This house is still inhabited and so a guide will take you through the house before you are left to wander in the gardens. It was a little disappointing not to be allowed to take photos, even without flash.

We loved the tiles and the library and found it really interesting to learn about the some of the history of Lisbon through hearing about the house. The gardens were pleasant, too.

It seemed to take a long time to get there, but I would say it was well worth it.
