“Gardens, azulejos and a Lived in Palace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

The azulejos are magnificent as are the gardens. The C17 Palace is the residence of the current Marquês da Fronteira. The first Marquês, D João de Mascarenhas, received his title from D Afonso VI for his loyalty to the house of Brangança in the War of Restoration. The largest room inside (the room of the battles) depicts scenes from the War of Restorartion and is now used for cultural events and was, until recently, used as a venue for Lisboetas to play bridge. There is a very good shop on site which sells reproductions of the azulejo panels.

“Located top of the road that leads to old town Lisbon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Great for pic taking. Roads clean. Plenty of parking. Great hotels in this area. Good views. Variety of shops both designer and local.

Would recommend.

“Nice gardens but azulejos need restauration”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Nice gardens but azulejos need restauration, we did only visit the gardens so we can not talk about the interior of the mansion. Nice place outside, and gardens that needed some more care, the azulejos, although very nice, were in bad condition.

“gardens were great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This was a fun tour, but not my favorite so far. I enjoyed the gardens very much, unfortunately we arrived when they were getting ready for wedding. The history of this house was interesting but not actually memorable. I loved the black swans that were there. They come right up to you looking for a snack. Our tour guide was very knowledgable. It took some time for the tour to get going despite us being told to return at a certain time to start the tour. The tour started at least 15 minutes late.

To get there from the Jardim Zoologica MTR Station take bus 770 or walk the road parallel to the railroad for 15 minutes until you see the blue and white pedestrian bridge to cross the the railroad.
