We stayed in this hotel to celebrate the new year in lovely Lisbon. I took the tickets last minute and hesitated with the Four Season next door. My main criteria was a top hotel with a pool for my 5 year old son. Location was also important as lots of reviews are mentioning lots of uphill walking...
We arrived to the airport and decided to take the airbus shuttle 25-30 mins. You have the option of the train which is much longer and not good with luggage. The airbus stop is opposite the exit and we took a return tickets for 5-6 euros per person. My son didn't pay which was a good start. You stop at a big roundabout called marques de pombal and the hotel is 10 mins walk straight line. you can see the Four Season and hotel is roughly opposite. Beware if you have luggage, i had my first cramp up that hill...
Hotel is brand new and very impressive when you arrive. A kind of design we like. If you want more character, look elsewhere. This is a great recent hotel. Reception and everyone helpful even if it was very busy when we arrived. We got a junior suite on the 4th. The biggest room we ever seen in a hotel. It was nearly as big as our first appartment in UK. It was spotless clean and full of tech in terms of store control. TV was super with lots of international channels and linked to a surround system. Bathroom massive also and very spacious. Lots of storage and a nice area for the family separated from the Bed. Aircon was top notch and very sensitive without having this horrible draft feeling in some hotels where you end up ill. There was a fridge and a coffee machine. The beds were a dream. In short, you are getting the picture...despite some small issues, close to ideal for us.
Breakfast is served on the 1st floor with a very impressive choice. My favourite was the pancakes which were a dream with fruits. We agreed with my wife that it could have scored 5/5 if only the coffee and juices were up to scratch. If the hotel managers read this, i suggest you put a self service coffee (semi professional nespresso will do) plus capacity to juice your orange juice yourself too (you see the machine in some shops and outside). A breakfast without good coffee, is half the experience especially if you like your coffee in the morning (or anytime).
Staff were very friendly despite being on edge as hotel packed for the new year. We have also seen how they were more relaxed once most people left and we came back to manageable numbers....This is a team all along, professional and friendly...
In terms of food, we didnt eat in the hotel except one room service that was a bit expensive but worth it. Presentation was very impressive.
Hotel is not in the city centre but not far at all. Even if he s by a very busy road, isolation was first rate. There is a massive shopping centre called amoreiras just opposite with supermarket (auchan) and lots of places to eat. There is even a kayser shop i recommend you find for the cakes, bread and top burger. Ideal for frequent stops with kids or without. There is another burger place very close called buns that is worth the visit. Notice, i am not a crazy fan of burger but we had to find ways to eat cheap and good with kids. In the shopping centre, you find a pasta place worth the try...for the rest, we ate in the city but nothing memmorable.
We walked from hotel everyday and you reach the centre in 10-15 mins without any problem. I highly recommend the Oceanario de Lisboa near oriente...make sure you have a camera that takes good pics without flash...i missed the best pictures ever but i will come back...When you arrive by train, you will find a big shopping centre and the aquarium is a big building with lots of white pillons. We went the wrong way and ended up walking by the Tage and alongside the telepheric...tiring but nice.
Important to note, the famous number 28 tram is packed like crazy so we took the 12 next to it. Not the same, i agree but it took us for a nice ride with lots of comfort. My son was happy and we could enjoy the spin...The 28th tour must be amazing but no point when you are packed like sardines...
HOTEL PART 2
We discovered that the indoor pool is not allowed for children below 14-16. That was the first schock of the arrival. I don't believe it was mentioned anywhere and i understand now why this hotel doesnt appear when you put the swimming pool filter. They have a second outdoor pool but closed in the winter. I urge the hotel and trip advisor to make it clear as you should have seen the look on the face of my son. Thank god, i managed to go in the morning as an exception and one evening when it was very quite. This hotel must be a dream during the summer...for Lisbon obviously...
This is more for the hotel if they read this. I spoke about the coffee and juices for the breakfast. The bathroom and tubs didnt always work properly so worth having a check. There was a leak also in our toilet which was fixed. Please clarify swimming pool policy in own and trip advisor website.
You can tell from the long review that i had lots to say but all this can be resumed in one sentence. Excellent hotel for first time in Lisbon, a dream for couples or families looking for luxury at a descent price and a great breakfast and amenities. It is officially my son best hotel and you can imagine my face when he said it out of the blue...
It was grey and miserable a lot but this hotel and Lisbon managed to make this trip memmorable...I looked at lots of hotels and this one has the best mix of value and offering...especially if a swimming pool/gym/health centre is a nice to have for you.
