“A very good second best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

I was in Lisbon for a couple of days and decided to go to Sacramento (just down from carmo) but it was full so the waiter recommended this place.

It turned out to be a lovely little place, the service was excellent and the food and wine were both lovely from starter to dessert! I don't think I had the best dish (veal croquettes) but my friends had fish and chicken/chorizo which looked great. Total cost for a 3 course meal was €65 which felt good value. In summary an accidental trip which turned out to be a little gem.

“Lovely cosy little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

We ate there last Wednesday and we really loved this place. The service was delighful and attentive. We found all the satff lovely and keen to help. We sat in the window and overlooked the square and the historical building opposite which was lovely, all lit up in the evening. The wine selection was good and very reasonably priced. We really like the "small plates" idea. The steak dish was the highlight, the other two dishes didnt quite live up to this dish. The "game" sausage was diffrent and had good flavour but not really my cup of tea. The desserts were a real treat - the trolley had a very tempting array to choose from. The chocolate cake made with condensed milk and the creme brulee were both excellent. A good experienc at very reasonable prices.

“Terrific tasting food but staff arguments left a sour taste”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

This restaurant was a good find...it's beautiful inside, apparently was an interior design showroom and is in several separate rooms. Shown to a nice if very neat little table for two in the first room. Let me say the food isn't your average tapas, this chef has a real talent for flavour...the risotto side with lemon and spring onions which came with the John Dory was super tasty and the steak came with tarragon...very lovely flavours indeed. The home made dessert table has about a dozen choices - I had cold rice pudding with cinnamon and it was mouthwatering. All the desserts looked amazing. The cocktails were the best I tasted in town. And vitally the whole experience is excellent value for money. Lounge music plays and the whole thing is very hip. One thing dented the evening. The staff were back biting each other and it was obvious, when we were taken up to the dessert table to have them explained, the girl broke off mid sentence to argue with 2 colleagues. This sniping went on several times and it was very unprofessional. There's something wrong if staff feel like that, and are allowed to display it. Shame. Everything else is bang on. The culture isn't quite right perhaps.

“Nice little place, but a little disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

Our waitress was wonderful, the wine was great- but we didn't think the food was stellar. We had codfish cakes with spanish rice, tempura green beans and Iberico pork and mushroom risotto as our tapas dishes. The pretty little cheese platter that we ordered to finish the wine with was actually the best part of the meal.

This is a charming little restaurant, but not the best meal we had in Lisbon.

“Something special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

Restaurante Carmo has a fantastic atmosphere and was the busiest of all the restaurants we visited while in Lisbon. It is a sort of upmarket Tapas, with a hugely varied menu and brought to you in stages as it is cooked (like Wahaca) so you know that it's freshly made.

The choice seems very authentic Portugese and is made of very fresh ingredients.

The restautant has it's own themes inside and each small room has it's own colour, which is a really nice touch. We were sat in the orange room opposite the very impressive wall of wine.

The waiting staff were warm and attentive and this was the only place we were asked "Without a reservation?" but were sat within 5 minutes.

Very good place to eat, if you're in the city centre, undoubtedly worth a try.
